I'm considering putting my DB1 on historic rego next year which means I will be selling my personalised number plate. It is a white on red BMOTA plate if any New South Welshmen are interested.

I have the personalised Reg of B1MTA on my DB2.......which would go on most Bimotas due to its age....tried to sell it a while ago and had no takers above 100squid....so thought what the heck...keep it on the bike.....it would have cost 135squid to have kept it on "retention" and then in the UK they charge you every year for keeping it on retention...another 25gbp..........recently its changed to 80gbp for renewal every ten years

What does putting it onto "Historic Registration" do it in Oz?

Varies from state to state. In NSW the vehicle has to be 30 years old and is supposed to be close to factory original. You need to be a member of a motoring club that is recognised by the licencing authority. You were only permitted to use the vehicle on club sanctioned events plus maintenance runs. At present there is a log book trial where you can use the vehicle for 60 days of personal use plus club runs. Cost runs out about 1/10th of full registration as the registration fee plus compulsory 3rd party personal insurance & comprehensive insurance is significantly reduced.
A special historic plate is issued so you cannot use any personalised or cherished plate you may have had whilst on full registration.
