Hi guys. I'm getting my bike for the road. My bike had an accident and I want to get it into the original shape. I bought brand new frame from bimota classics. But there is a big problem. This frame doesn't have points for screws. I have to make holes and tap them. I don't remember where to put for example : ignition coils. The manual i have doesn't have enough drawings. Also a shitty thing is that if there is a place for some bolts (ex. for rear suspension) it is different than in my original frame. Can anyone make me some pictures of his bike without the fuel tank? it could be ver helpful for me to assembly my bike. Thanks |

Do you have the Bimota Exploded spare parts manual? Or the DB4 Bimota Workshop manual? |

Seems very strange to me that it doesn't have bolt holes etc?

Not really Brian....just means it was a frame never used by Bimota at the time.....bought in by them...but they put the finishing touches to it for where bits go.....You can also find footpegs, same as on DB4/SB6....that are unfinished...in not having drilled or threaded holes to fix the rubbers on, or not final anodised...its things like the side fairing fixing holes and threaded inserts that seemed to be put on at the factory....and the frames were made elsewhere and shipped to Bimota for them to do the final bits.... |

They (they being all manufacturers) consider it to be "progress"....todays Bimotas are all parts made elsewhere and shipped in...be it frames, bodywork and even the nice shiney billet pieces are all farmed out elsewhere.....bimota down to "mere" fabrication....evidently brakes, wheels and engines were always farmed out...and electrical parts from donor bike, and clocks, lights, indicators etc etc....but like BMW, VW etc....they all share parts from other manufacturers.....Evidently in the old days...frames were what they made...and the bodywork also and painting....but thats all gone now |

Uuummm, the swing arm (rear suspension) is attached to the engine/transmission case on the db4. Mine's naked at the moment, waiting for me to get the carbon bodywork going _________________ 02 aprilia RSVR Mille, 02 aprilia SL1000 Falco

The mantra frame and the DB4 frame are similar but have different mounting points for the rear sets. I'm sure Bimota classics gave you the correct frame. Very knowledgable people there. _________________ 2002 Cannondale E440

Thanks guys for your replies. The footpegs doesn't fit either. Is not a problem to change te typical bolt like 6,8,10,12 mm. But these holes are for ex. 11,25mm bolts... If somebody has manuals please send it to my email cezarychrobot@gmail.com thanks |

I've sent you the DB4 workshop manual via "dropbox"....so you should be able to download it from there...just looking for the Spare parts exploded diagram.....although maybe you can view this on BimotaClassicParts website?? |

As Polyesterpig said the Mantra (db3) and the db4 frames look VERY VERY similar but are different. Easiest way to tell is the rear sub frame mounts. DB3 ones are lower.
I will have a look at my spare db4 frame. Its brand new , still in the wrappers, so should be as Bimota received it.
On the building vehicles front, being in the auto manufacture industry I can confirm what 2bim's is saying. Very few car/bike places actually make anything, they just assemble. In fact these days BMW/Merc/Lexus etc , dont even do that. Some models are ' designed ' in house ( this is usually sub'd out) and then the manufacture can be under licence to an assy plant ( independent plant , I know of one plant in Europe that makes all of the above manufactures ), so the first time the badged company see's the car is when it turns up at the dealers to sell !!!! It's called globel trading !!!!!! Mean't to be the way forward ?????? |
