the DB9 made it up the Manchester show a couple of weekends ago.
Never really done shows or what have you , I have always been frightened of losing my toggle from the tie-cord on my anorak.

Suffice to say other than the crazy..lets leave at 2.30AM on the opening morning of the show...everything went OK. The Bimota stand and the company was good and the crowd seemed fair to good with not too many smackheads....although the girl with mild and bitter tattoed on each breast took a bit of getting used to.....still it was Madchester.....as they call it in the south!

Whilst there the bike got a good looking (over especially from me) and this is when I dicovered the frame fouling of the MATRIS shock.

The standard OEM Extreme had been replaced twice under warranty and no matter what kind of adjustment I made I could not get set up ...it felt like a dog dragging it flea ridden rear....so to speak

Ohlins did not list an alternative and there are a total of 3 DB9 in the UK so the list of options and availablity is like finding a nun in high heels...a bit unlikely.

I have since found out that HONDA CBR 1000RR unit fits and is only 1.5 mm variation on travel.

I bought the Matris front and rear conversion and was extremely chuffed by the way the bike now stopped and banked. No real issues until I noticed it was fouling the bracing on the swinging arm against the shock spring....about 1000kms after its fitting

Brian.....many thanks for uploading the images.

The Matris front cartridges had been fitted and totally changed the front end.
As had the rear shock but as you can see the fit was too tight
......needing the eccentric top shock cam set on full front to clear as best it could, but like all springs ...they move..
and foul it did, removing the nice powder coating from the Matris in the process.

Ben at Bimota UK had pestered the factory into sending a new shock for the Db9.....they sent him an Extreme shock....and later duly sent a top of the range Ohlins ...now that they had changed their suspension provider.

A vernier shows the Ohlins is smaller in diameter than the Matris and is pre set almost the same elsewhere.

The Matris is easy enough to remove and the Ohlins replaces it perfectly

I would go as far as to say the Matris is better........better from an engineering point of view......more engineer than OEM....the build quality is as good if not better......the controls are similar and the range is there or again slightly better.

But the sping needs to be taken off relieved on a belt linisher and re sprayed or powder coated.

And at the price of the Matris....it should fit and no issues.

So....I know that other oz based DB owners have Matris fronts but to all you out there ......the rear Matris appears an easy fit but over full travel and actual miles....it fouls the frame.

Now I have to try the Ohlins.....I am off to Italy this summer on the DB9

I hope that this is of help to other DB 7-8-9-11 owners as they all share the same geometry and frame linkage parts....as does the Impeto!
