Faulty igniter pack seems to be the problem.

Now to source one quickly.

Thanks for the tips, I swapped everything around and identified the faulty part.

Cheers

Good to hear....and would have been part of cause of previous bad running. Causing plug fouling if it was on its way out....my Db2 dropped onto one cylinder once when I was riding around the Isle of mann.... Fortunately because of the 944cc big hole kit and flatslides, I could still start and ride it to the nearest garage, stripped the bodywork and traced and checked wires, and one came off in my hand, showing just 2 strands of wire were connected to one of the kokusan units...stripped the sheathing back to good wiring, new connecter onto spade of kokusan and right as rain again, thank gawd...my mate on his db2 that I was with was having too much good time on his own and I was keen to join him over the mountain....I have a good seller in Italy that sells on ebay those units at half ducati price and posts quickly if you are interested?... Otherwise it's try ducati dealers for 900ss and monster kokusan units..

Here is a link to the guy in Western Australia.

http://www.ebay.com/usr/ducatishack?_trksid=p2057872.m2749.l2754

He keeps a variety of parts new and used for old Ducati.

Cheers

Part arrived double quick.

Now have spark at both cylinders.

Will run it tonight when I get in from work.

Bloody good service , didn't expect to get the part this side of Xmas.

Bike runs but needs a tickle up.

Also noticed some oil at the vertical cylinder base gasket area.

Any clues?

Good to hear it runs....have you torqued the cylinder head down properly, needs a special ducati only offset spanner, it's u shaped, so that you can apply torque wrench directly over the centre of the locking nuts on the cylinder heads....the barrel has oil paths that are fed by the oil pump via the oil lines....my Db2 had similar oil traces when I replaced the stud bolts after one had sheared. I just wiped it up, and after some proper running it sealed and didn't appear again, the Base gasket is below the sweep of the piston rings so don't worry too much as there won't be any loss of compression, the gearbox is not pressurised either, gaping hole in the top via the crankcase breather, so no worries there either....run and ride and clean and check and repeat...

Thanks,

I will recheck the head bolt torque and run and recheck. I hope I don't have to drop the motor again!

All part of the fun , there is a fair amount of oil though. Will check it more thoroughly today.

Cheers

Sad but tue,

The oil leak didn't go away, motor coming out and vertical barrel to be pulled to investigate .

Have a new base gasket and O Rings.

Curious to find what went wrong !

Could be that one of the green o rings had a split or was past its best.....I seal on both sides of the plate with grey gasket 2 pack sealant also, oil resistant stuff....

Yeah, I'm thinking that it's an O Ring !

I got a genuine Ducati base gasket and O Rings as well. The genuine base gasket is a lot thicker than the Athena one by the looks of it .

Engine is close to being out now.

Will let you know and pics of course.

I am taking the bike down to Ian Gowanloch on Sunday to get him to give it a final going over.

Motor out,

Vertical base gasket replaced with genuine one and O rings.

Now back together and in the bike tonight.

Hope it solves the problem. The leak was becoming worse so I had no choice.

If the bike was just a display item it could have stayed that way but as it will be used regularly I had no choice.

What a pain !

I must admit though, it has been a lot easier to work on this time as I am becoming familiar with the bike. Hope the same apply for installing the motor and fitting everything up.

Cheers
