Weed,

The X75 is complete and it's a runner.

Only done 5K miles.

It is undergoing a partial resto but the Bim has priority at the moment.

P.S It is not for sale .

Wrestled with getting the motor back into the frame by myself tonight for 2 hours. No joy!

Will get my hrother to help me tomorrow after work.
Easy to take the motor out but hard to line everything up when refitting the motor .The spacers are a bastard to fit to the mounting bolts for the engine as they are a very tight fit between the engine case and the frame.

Hope to get it back in tomorrow arvo.

Hey how eh....I've wondered about the spacers before....Db2 has them also....on both engine frame bolts...but fitted to the rhs only...You'd think they'd have made the frame to fit instead.... Swingarm also has spacers, but one each side....that I understand as it pivots on the needle rollers in the engine casing...and you wouldn't want it chaffing against the engine.....maybe it's one better than ducati 900ss...which doesn't have spacers.... Maybe it's to give more clearance to remove the belt covers and belts. Which can be done with the motor inside....??

I have had plenty of time to think about the spacers.

They are a very tight fit on this motor and frame.

I thought that they were to align the engine and chain !

They are a major pain.

They were an iconic bike in their day. I am more in the sale cycle of life, not the buying cycle at the moment. Smile

Maybe due to your 900 engine implant new spacers were made up..maybe a tad oversized...normally they slot in easily as the bolt threads into the frame lugs and pull everything tight and snug when tightened... Db4 has oversized welded spacer on frame...and different sized spacers each side... I know that on Db1, Db2 and db4 that bimota used special offset front sprockets to achieve alignment...standard ducati front sprockets will fit as the splined drive shaft is the same...but chain alignment is then out....seen a few cases where this has happened and there's been chaffing on the Swingarm, indifferent wear on f and r sprockets not to mention the twisted pressure it puts on the drive shaft....

This bike has nuts seperate to tighten mounting bolts.

My brother came over and helped me . It was still a pain but we got there now to put it all back together and take to Mr Gowanloch.



Carbs need rejeting and hopefully Ian gives the bike a good going over.

While I am down there I hope to have a good look around. Will take pics and post of course. I hear he has some interesting Bimotas down there.

Refit belts, carbs , pipes and wiring to go.

Seems to be easier when you have done it before!

Well,

The bike is now with Ian Gowanloch for some extra special care and attention.

What a great place to visit. A veritable time capsule and parts everywhere.

Will post some pics later. Ian has some Bimota stuff and can be contacted at Italspares.

Check it out, lots of Ducati stuff as well as Bimota and Guzzi.

A great day out, everywhere I looked there was a bike that was interesting !

Now just to wait for the Db1! to get back and be ridden like it should.

I don't think my association with this bike will ever end and have enjoyed resurrecting it to a condition where it can be used on a regular basis.

I must thank everyone on here for their help and guidance and now realise why these bikes are so special to their owners.

I will pop in from time to time to keep you updated on the bikes progress and usage.

Hi Ken,
I just found your Forum this afternoon, it made for an interesting read, all 17 pages of it.
I to have gone through a similar rebuild of my DB1 ten years ago, 17in conversion, different brakes and masters, repainting of the forks, swing arm and bodywork, exhaust and the stroking and big bore kit done to the original F1 motor, engineering done by Pete Smith. Raced it for a year in the Bears series,what a lot of fun that was. Its been in my office since then,
I've just pulled in out and Mike from Gowanloch's at Kingsgrove is going to get it running again, ready for the Barry Sheen
Im sure Ian will sort out your little gremlins as he was the man 30 years ago.
If there's any thing you need to Know just ask

Hi Db1,

Will probably see you at the Sheen then.

The bike is still with Ian.

The plan is to get it in the next couple of weeks.

The lady who owns it can't wait and is excited to get back on it and use it .

I will be looking after the bike for her and am lucky in so far as I now know a bit about the bike after the work that I have done.

There is still a lot to do cosmetically and as the owner travels for work sometimes it will be done next time she is away.

In the meen time it will be ridden.

One thing you might be able to help with is some advice on where to get body fasteners here in Oz

Have you not asked this before? They are known as Camlock or camloc 1/4 turn fasteners...used a lot in the aeronautical industry and race cars to fix body panels on...tis a bugger though to size them correctly as they are individually sized to a diameter and thickness of panels to be fastened together......I have a link somewhere with technical drgs of how to measure and size properly.....

Page24 on here shows you sizes and how to determine whether its a 2600, 2700 or 4002 series...you can buy the front piece or the back piece that is riveted to the back panels separately
