Question to anyone who can help. I was about to take off front wheel but it has a strange setup. I know I have to remove the nut on the left side of the bike but to remove/unscrew the wheel axle I would need an Allen hex. Well here is where I got a problem. I don't know the size of the hex. Tried inverting 17mm and it felt very loose. The 19mm that I got might be too short to reach the axle hex or it actually might be too big. Can the Allen hex be 18mm?

Anyone who removed the front wheel and knows the size of the hex or, even better, can post picture of the tool, I would highly appreciate it. I need to change my tires and need to take off my front wheel

Thank you in advance

What you need is a set of these.....

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/9pc-STUBBY-IMPACT-HEX-BIT-SOCKET-SET-by-VORLUX-TOOLS-10-19mm-short-allen-key-/252411255868?hash=item3ac4e21c3c:g:kTUAAOSw9eVXUCXz

I just entered "18mm Hex Key"....usually if you went down to a Motor Factors spares place they should have a full set.....better to look at Car places rather than bikes for the large size stuff

then they will fit onto a torque wrench also for refitting.....I bought a similar set....and a set of Sump plug sockets also....but I see that these have 17,18 and 19mm pieces....'fraid I dont know the size of the socket itself on the Santamonica

Will vernier gauges not reach deep enough to measure it across? Or try with a piece of wood and keep whittling it down until it "fits" to check the size?....Or do you have an old set of precision tech drg compasses? Other than that its wait for Vort on here....as hes the only other person I know that owns a SantaMonica....

Your problems on Front wheels are shared with me as I've had to buy some odd tools in the past for Front wheel removal on Bimotas...noticeably the newer stuff...DB5R and DB6R...the 5R having the same Oz Racing wheels as the Santa....

If you have "feeler gauges" used for measuring shims clearances, spark plug gaps....you can insert these and spread them out and "lock"...and then measure the correct hex size you need....I tried with my DB5R...and the gap is too deep for vernier gauges...but fine for feeler gauges....

Easy way to check would be to use the head of a bolt to get the right size. I'm most of us would have a large bucket of bolts, odds and ends stashed in a corner. Some metric bolts have 17, 18, 19 mm head depending on manufacturer

I use this set when removing my wheel. It has about a 50mm reach as hex is quite deep inside spindle.

I can't say exactly which hex drive I use, its either the 17 or 19mm , but can check for you over the weekend when I get home.

I suppose you have to hope its not the 18mm....as that tool kit hasnt got one....find that a fair few times with Bimota bolts....quite often picking one where allen keys and hex sockets dont normally cover them

As I said, that is what I use , so therefore not an 18mm.

Checked for you Falcolion and both mine the same, 19mm

And like this when mounted in the socket drive.
