|
|
Hi
I'm having a problem with my almost new DB8 - it doesn't start (((
I've brought it to Ducati service in Luxembourg, but they unfortunately do not have software to check the system
Please suggest what to do (
If the option to bring the bike to the nearest dealer is the only one?
many thanks ((( |

In what way does it not start?
Does the engine turn over but wont catch?...Is the engine not turning over at all....but can you hear a clicking noise when the starter button is pressed?
Is the battery GOOD.....and yes...maybe the lights work, the horn sounds, indicators work.....but the battery may not be able to start the bike...and if too low it wont even turn it over.... |

I've brought it to the official Ducati service here
They have checked the battery, spark-plug
It seems it doesn't catch when I want to start
Battery for sure good...
They still think it's something with electronique, thats why they want me to check with Bimotas spec |

on my db7 you have to have the side stand UP and the clutch in for it to start ! |

when the bike is leaning on its side stand and you pull in the clutch and try to start the engine the battery turns the engine slowly as if its faulty, you can here it trying to start but won't. I put a new battery on but it was the same,I sat on the bike took it off the side stand pulled in the clutch and it started first touch and has done so ever since.
I hope your problem is this simple ! |

The Sidestand switch shouldnt be your problem....as the DB7 and DB8 should start when the bike is on its sidestand as long as the clutch is pulled also......Are you saying the "engine management" light has lit up on the Koso clocks?
If they havent done so already I would suggest disconnecting the battery and the ECU and reconnecting to try and cancel it.....
What ECU does your bike have? It should be a Walbro ECU....which Ducati software wont read.....there are programmes for the Walbro ECU...but you also need the connecting cable....and a computer which has Windows XP running on it...nothing newer.....Or does your bike have the later Athena ECU?
ECU is on the RHS behind the side fairing.......I would check all the electrical connecters and make sure someone hasnt put grease on the connecters to try to keep them dry.
Some dealers do have the Walbro software and the connecting cable...but I know that Bimota the factory do not...and they do not have the programmes for the Athena ECU's either...which will be fitted to your DB10.
Check with manuel Nunez who is chairman of the Swiss Bimota Club for anyone in switzerland that can help.....speaks ENglish
I have the cable and software but not much good as I'm in the UK
Is fuel getting through to the chambers?.... |

I had the same on my DB9
It was showing engine sign on dash traced it to fuel pump relay......engine turned okay but no firing
There was a bank of three relays approx 20mm by 20 mm by 25 deep think it was the middle one....Change relays until the light goes out....
I replaced them with one's from the Ducats 999:::::all okay now
Make sure you switch for the latest sealed relays....otherwise water can get in be old types......do not ask how I know
Hope this helps _________________ On an Island in the River Thames!
