Darnit! I was really hoping that these were more "the same" rather than "similar". I have been toying with the idea of purchasing an LED taillight on eBay and doing the same thing re: mounting the newer components in the old housing. I know someone who makes motorcycle LED lights on his 3-D printer but it might require making a good CAD drawing of the original light.

This is yet another lesson on items made in China do not necessarily match the manufacturer's OEM product. Sometimes only minor fitment adjustments are required. While this aftermarket light was not specifically designed for the DB6 type of tail section, it appears that it is different enough to make a difference.

Let the shopping begin.

OK, finally got light to fit, been cut down a fair amount , literally down to the lens

LED internals look like they will go in the old light casing but the new lens is a different mount system so will not fit the old case.
Going to run with it as it is for now and see how in goes.
Will post pictures when I finally get it back together.

Need to stop those dogs peeing on your lawn there Vort...nasty bleached puddle.... Laughing

Is the lens delivery, work to fit etc...that difficult that you wont be bothering to do any more of them after this trial version?

Weird how it is such a pain to fit, yet straightforward on the Benelli Tornado.....

First glace it did look the same , but guess Bimota, as usual , decided to ' CARRY OVER ' modify it !!!!!! so the 5mm bezel that runs around the standard Benelli on is washed out on the Bimota one .

Have got it mounted now in the 6R seat unit but no pictures yets as not finished , (maybe this makes a difference to standard is plastic and 6R carbon) , but with all the messing about I got side tracked !! Shocked

It looked so !!!! lonely ???

Realised I did'nt post any pictures of the completed led installed and as others have asked questions recently , thought I better had.

I wish to state :-

NO BIMOTA BODYWORK WAS TRIMMED OR MODIFIED IN THE FITMENT OF THIS LED LIGHT .

So here it is in all its glory.

I ordered the taillight from Aliexpress.
Without having to cut something out at the rear, it doesn't fit, it's too wide. The workmanship is also not so good.
It was too expensive for that.

Believe me I had to seriously file the body of the light housing down to get it to fit as I refused to modify the body work.
The original light on the left does not have the flange on it the LED one on the right does

This flange had to be removed in the area highlighted in yellow on the image below.

I removed so much material in the area highlighted in white that I created a hole in the case.

The actual light once fitted had a black silicone bead run around it to get a nice neat fit/finish as shown below.

I'm sorry,
that's not an option for me.
I don't use silicone on my motorcycle.
Although he managed it beautifully.
If you can use the rear light, you would sell it at cost price.
greetings
Dirk
