Not the same carbs but the principle is the same. Very similar. Looks to be a well put together 'how to' thread.
Just take note amd write down the settings in YOUR carbs as you strip them, like.... float height, number of turns out on pilot screws, jet sizes and jet needle numbers. Sometimes inner and outer carbs will have slightly different sizes, but my SB6 carbs are all the same _________________ '99 DB4 #104, '96 SB6 #1165, '94 DB2 J #652, '99 DB4 #088, '08 VTX1800, '93 ZXR750R M1, '95 ZXR750, '95 ZXR750 Race Bike, '94 CBR400rr NC29 Race Bike, '94 CB250, '49 BSA C10 250, '61 BSA A10 650, '89 ZXR750, '91 Ducati 851 |

Cheers for that. Just nice to have a reference to go by.
on a slightly different subject, anyone know where I can get a new fuel valve set up? The mechanical part is fine but the electrical part which I assume is the solenoid has had a repair on it with what looks like plastic metal and the fuel that has leaked on to it has melted it. Not keen to use it again due to the spark and fire risk. |

I know I am a pain in the arse but I meant to ask another question.
When you remove the fuel pump what do you do with the 1/4" line that runs from the pump to the inlet of number 3 cylinder downstream of the carbs? Is it just a case of blocking it off by plugging the hose or is it just open ended in the airbox?
Also, do the lines to the fuel rail need to be of equal length to prevent starvation to a bank ocarbs?
I cant help thinking this is entry level stuff. But every time I work on the bike I have the sensation my old man is looking over my shoulder drying his teeth and rolling his eyes. Lol. |

Take the vacuum hose off at the carb manifold. Put a rubber cap over the hole on the manifold and a rubber grommet in the hole in the airbox. Don't vent the hose into the airbox, as the number 3 carb will be drawing too much air compared to the others.
The fuel lines don't need to be equal length, but you do need to make sure that they will not kink and give you fuel starvation. I use a '1 in 2 out' fuel filter from Pingel, rather than complicating the plumbing with a "Y" piece.
The electric fuel cocks can be had off e-bay. _________________ What, Jonny's gone! |

Permanently block off the vacuum line AT the cylinder, with a pipe cover of some sort.
The supply hoses can be of slightly different lengths, but making them the same should not be an issue. I would make them the same, only because I am an anal asswipe, with a keen eye for symmetry .
no question is dumb...only answers are....
Sorry Jonny! You beat me to the puncvh by mere minutes...I am glad we were on the same page, at least.... _________________ '98 Bimota SB6R #000016 "Sweet 16"

Sean,
Here is an ad for one, albeit in the USA. But, the make and model are listed....I am NOT sure if the electric is the fuel shut off, the gauge, or low fuel light, or all three.

I, too, am in need of one, to replace my failing cock...(I am in my 50s...LOL)
It may take some modifying, but, it's a starting point.....Next time I tear my bike down (probably in the spring) I will take a closer look.

Just about to rebuild the carbs today. I have a new seal kit from Thailand to do this with. Will putting new orings on make it necessary to make changes to settings like the mix screw? I only ask since we are talking about such small adjustments I thought the new oring might make a difference. |

Screws on float bowls were pretty mashed when I went to take them out. Ordered cap screw ones but alas they were the wrong size. I have the carbs built now but used stainless screws for the bowls. Should I replace them with original material screws or will stainless ones be fine? Just worried about two materials reacting with each other. |

I haven't had any trouble with them. Those rotten stock Phillips screws always seem the strip in the head though _________________ '99 DB4 #104, '96 SB6 #1165, '94 DB2 J #652, '99 DB4 #088, '08 VTX1800, '93 ZXR750R M1, '95 ZXR750, '95 ZXR750 Race Bike, '94 CBR400rr NC29 Race Bike, '94 CB250, '49 BSA C10 250, '61 BSA A10 650, '89 ZXR750, '91 Ducati 851 |

Should I be prepared to adjust the mix screw because of the new orings? |
