I just did a search and went thru 8 pages of posts and could find any info on aftermarket Air Filters for YB11.

Supposedly same filter should fit all of the following bikes
YB4/YB6/YB8/YB9 SR SRI BELLARIA/YB11. I looked at the filter and it looks like it could be same one as in 1997 Yamaha YZF 1000R Thunderace but I am not sure.

Did anyone ever found out which of the aftermarket Air Filters would fit?

Any help will be appreciated

Post a picture of what you have. If it is the same as a YZF1000r, then it is an oval pass through filter and K&N makes one for around $62 USD and eBay has some for $20 USD.

K&N part number YA-1089

I just can't picture the YB airbox.

Yes, your description is correct but Bimota list their OWN part number for the filter and it threw me off. I suspect it's same as YZF1000R looking at their part #. Just wondering what is the actual difference?

If someone did the replacement before a confirmation would be awesome

Here is how OEM Bimota looks like

Here is OEM Yamaha YZF 1000R Air Filter

And here is KN YA-1089 Air Filter

Those were the ones I was referring to. Your picture of your YB filter appears to indicate it is a bit longer. Now if you have either the old filter to measure or the airbox, measure the following:

OA (overall) length (from the center of the outside of the rubber gasket to its opposite side

OA width (same way)

OA height

Inner dimensions of the opening (l & w) from the inner edges of the rubber gasket.

Armed with these dimensions, check them against the K&N specs...which should be online or go to your local Yamaha shop and hope they have a factory YZF1000r filter in stock to measure...or check on the YZF forums and see if someone has measured theirs or can measure theirs.

This will let you know if they are the same or if Bimota built their own airbox.

If different, either call your local K&N rep and see if they make a replacement that is similar or close enough to use or see what is available online.

Just my $.02 and thinking outside the (air) box. 😎

Quikduk,

Thank you for giving me an ideation measure this filter.

I can now report that Yamaha filter or it's equivalent will not work

K and N YA-1089 dimensions are way too big
Outside length - 156 mm
Outside width - 122 mm
Height - 108 mm
Inside length - 98mm
Inside width -67 mm

The filter that is right now in the bike I'd Fiamm FL6380. Unfortunately it's been discontinued back in 2011. I couldn't find any cross reference.
Outside length - 140mm. Maximum possible filter that could fit is 143 mm
Outside width - 87 mm. Maximum that could be 89mm
Height - 74mm
Inside length - 105mm
Inside width - 55mm

The closest one in figment is K&N HA-0008 for 1993-2003 Honda Africa Twin

Well the closest KN filter is HA-0008
Base Outside Length - 140 mm
Base Outside Width - 86 mm
Height - 67 mm

IF ANYOME knows anything else, please chime in

Falcolion, the filter for a YB8 & 8e is a K&N KA0800 which is off an early 1970s Kwak. Far better to go for that than the paper thing from Fiamm, which was off an Austin Allegro - which is a car from the days when the Uk's auto industry had lost it's way somewhat! Google it and have a laugh at what your Bimota shares its air filter with and be glad that's all they share!

Jonny,

I looked at this filter but I think dimensions are way off. It's actually close with the exception of the width. Got to re-measure it again and see if it will fit

Base Outside Length 5.5 in (140 mm)
Base Outside Width 4 in (102 mm)
Height 2.875 in (73 mm)
Inside Length 4.25 in (108 mm)
Inside Width 2.75 in (70 mm)
Outside Length 5.5 in (140 mm)
Outside Width 4 in (102 mm)

Hi

I have a K&N in my Dieci, which is from a 1970 Kwak. So K&N KA0800 sounds right, but would need to check.

All the best

Katy

If dimensions are way off, I can only assume that the YB11 air box is different to the earlier YBs, because I have this filter on a YB8 & an 8e.

Yes they are a different airbox, and frame. Bimota got rid of the beam behind the carbs, and the sheet metal at the headstock. The airbox nose drops down between the frame rails.

If you can find an oval filter the same length and width (even if you have to make up a aluminium plate to close off the back, depth is not critical) you should be fine

Well, here is an update about K&N HA-0008. It is way off. Spoke with a manager and the problem is with K&N website. Sizing specified on the site is incorrect. This filter is 148 mm long and 96 mm wide. It doesn't fit into stock opening. I am going to see if the mod is possible. My main concern is the width. I don't think there is enough space to open up/widen the hole to 97 mm. It's at least 1 cm bigger in width and it's very big difference

This is a list of direct replacement filters. I just need to find which ones are still available.

Here is a list of all cross reference filters
http://www.yoyopart.com/oem/7428308/ufi-2777800.html
But one still need to make sure about dimensions. Also a lot of direct replacement filters had been discontinued

Found another figment and it's the one that BCP is selling for insane money. It's HiFi filter SA6059.

Now all I need to do is find were I can buy it

I have 2 K&N air filters available.
Ka0800's
They do need trimming to fit.

Ka-0080 is WAY WAY TOO wide.At 102 mm there is not enough plastic to trim. Look at the above picture left side plastic

A Eureka moment I think!
The airbox on your YB11 is very different to mine.
It may be a US / EU emissions thing.
I do not have the ability to post pictures but will send to someone who has.
This may be why a KA0800 will not fit yours?
