Hi
Another Italian 125 2 squeak.
We have 2 Cagiva Freccia C12Rs. One is the ex road test bike and one that was bought for spares but was too good to break. Also some remains for spares.
Friday I stripped the carb on one of the Freccias to get it running again yesterday (the one bought for spares). And painted the exhaust, and fitted a fuel tap. Bled the brakes as well.
Managed to start the bike but it would only run on choke.
Had another go at the carb yesterday and got it running OK. So rang up and got an MOT booked, and it passed.
Last tax disk ran out in 2004
Still needs a bit doing. Whatever had accumulated in the carb has corroded the atomiser tube, so need to order a few bits.
All the best

Well done Katy. Good to see you are sticking with non mainstream bikes. Is it the same motor as the CX 125?

Hello,
was the Freccia designed by Tamburini? It looks like a little Paso,

Hi
Totally different engine to the CX. The engine was Cagivas own and developed over the years. This version has a 7 speed gearbox and was used on the early Mito, and slowly developed more over the years.
As we have a few Aprilias, Cagivas and Gileras it is interesting to compare them. The Cagivas are the best engineered, with roller bearings in more places. Cagivas have by far the best quality plastics. However the electrics are by far the worst! The Cagiva engine is pretty heavy compared to the others. The Gilera has the most nicely designed engine, and probably the best design of power valve (it looks similar to the Yamaha system, but when the valve is on the low revs position it also opens up a chamber above the exhaust port, like the Honda ATAC system), but the frame is a fairly crude steel item. Plastics are the worst. Electrics are about the same as the Aprilias. The Aprilias are a bit cruder from an engineering point of view, spending their money on the frame and styling.
Yes the Freccia was designed by Tamburini. The original Freccia was the C9 and that looked more like the Paso (and had underseat exhausts), and the same style wheels as the Paso. It didn't have the Paso type mirror / indicator pods. The C10 had revised bodywork (and gained the Paso mirror / indicator pods) but kept the older wheels while the C12R had updated wheels. The C9 was used as the basis for the Moto Morini Dart, but which also used the C12R wheels. If you look at a Dart carefully you will notice the wheel spokes go different ways around front and back; this is because the chain was on the other side on the Morini engine, and to cope with this the main thing they did is turn the wheel around.
All the best
