Push throttle cable has come apart on my SB6R
Pull cable looks a bit tired as well.
I was hopefull that a standard set of cables from suzuki WP would fit
but unfortunately not.
Anyone know what and where I can get these cables from I have tried
Venhill and they can only make copies from the original (4 weeks lead time)

any help gratefully accepted

Gary

I'd have said Venhill

Could you get their repair kits and replace the cores ?

Hi

Venhill sell a kit for making your own cables. You will need a powerful soldering iron, or a solder pot.

Not cheap, but then nor are one off cables (a choke cable for my Dieci came to about £45 once VAT and postage was included).

All the best

Katy

You can use screw / bolt on nipples.
I use bolt on with exup cables

Making your own cables is not difficult, but as Admin says, you need a solder pot. A soldering iron, doesn't do the job nearly effectively enough. If you've gone to the expense of a solder pot, you also want a birds nest tool to prepare the end of the cables to go into the nipple. There won't be much change out of £250, which militates in favour of getting Venhill to make them up for you, unless you've a number of bikes over which to defray the cost.

Hiya

I bought a cheap solder pot, for just over £10. Seems to work fine although it holds more solder than you would think

I haven't got a bird cage tool. Just splay the ends out once the nipple is on the cable then solder. I have used a soldering iron, but it is an 80w one and barely adequate for the job

All the best

Katy

Looks like I've been mugged again Sad
But I would recommend the bird cage tool - just do me a favour & keep it to yourself, if you manage to pick one up for ten bob Crying or Very sad

Hi

I have no doubt that there are better solder pots, but for occasional use this one is fine.

Bird caging tool is tempting, but at £100 they are not cheap

All the best

I've never heard of a bird caging tool so I googled it

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PV3XLAG3jx8

It's a tool for flaring out the end of the cable. You learn something every day.

I use one of those mini gas powered soldering torches for most things on the bike so I don't have problems heating up the cable ends when making a cable. I've made a heap of accelerator and clutch cables and never had a failure even without the mysterious bird caging tool.

I wondered if the throttle cable would benefit from a 90 deg bend at the carb end ???

looks like making my own cable is the way ahead
i like the idea of the bend at the carb end to save the kinked cable
Took the old girl out today and put a massive smile on my face.
Just love the sound of that beast

Even better news I got a fuel float level switch and even better it looks like it might fit.
I will let you know how I get on once the sun hides and the rain comes back
cheers for all your help
