Hello..........
Like the crying and nervous child on the plane in Airplane....I fully expect people to want to slap me...but...
To all the engineers out there...you will understand and nod.
To the alloy welders.....tug your apron and sigh.
To DJT77....thank you for your help
Some people just can't be told.
regards

Sprintex Supercharger, 4 boxes of DB7 bits,
a Zues Book, French fag packet and hope.
The Zues book did it for me. Going to go home and break out the sine bar/slips and surface plate , reminisce and find something to measure |

Another Cardboard Box of bits arrived via couriers from BIMOTA CLASSIC PARTS
and this allowed the part assembly of the swinging arm.
The OEM frame and alloy side plates came with the original frame purchase.
Along with the rear alloy plates which bolt to the arm with the frame purchase, but NO Bolts,
Spindle, Chain adjusters and any other bits....all these came from BCP
What did arrive (via that cardboard box) with the wheel spindle was the bearing assemblies and all spacers,
circlips with bearings, all three types taper, needle and ball bearing
along with some machined top hat alloy sections reducings the bearing internal dia size
down to fit the engine mounted swinging arm spindle.
Each bearing side of the swinging arm had to be assembled
...held together by a magical seven handed monster whilst it
used it spare hand to hold the copper mallet and drive the bearings in!!
The final bearing and assembly were cable tied to stop them falling out.
Even more shaningains will be needed to fit the arm assembly to the engine.
But at least it is one managable part.
Looking good in its Black and Silver....with top shock adjuster.
a good indication to the frame choice.
No more now untill after the May Day break....
although I have to machine the bearing cups for the headstock
to accept the Diavel yokes and forks, to which I have a (new) set of cast
iron BERINGER discs from a BOTT Ducati racer and a Benelli TNT1130
front whee.........Discs were in the garage....Benelli front and rear OZ
style 5 spoke wheels £300 all in...including rear disc and sprocket carrier.
It's bring out the Scottish in me
regards

Great project Gavin, makes my DB2 look like a moped... Approximately how many bhp are you expecting from this beast, and more to the point, who the hell is going to insure it???
Keep up the good work, you're inspiring us all to be a bit more crazy. _________________ 1998 Bimota DB2 edizione finale naked

Hello.........the insurance in the UK has never really been a problem. Over the years I have managed to cover for various prototypes and strange engined machines. The authorities seem more interested
(or at least they used to) in making sure that the brakes matched the engine power and other safety features were present...that and it being properly assembled.
The building a Bimota based thing, is never easy and the wrong turns you take ....thinking that the factory did this ....only to find that they did that, are really frustrating.
But as part of the biking pleasure comes not just from riding them, but with tinkering with them....I 'll continue.
Having some issues resizing and uploading images (currently using Flickr) I can't keep asking others to hold images for me.
As soon as I have cracked it ...more images will follow.
Gavin

Flickr is easy, simply click on the share icon, the curved arrow bottom right hand side of the image, select BBC code and paste.. into the window here...
You don't need to use any of the features of this forum, just paste exactly what is in the flickr window...
It will include back links to your flickr page, as an example here is an image i took of Brian at the Festival of Speed, it sometimes isn't neat, as you can see here the name and link are placed next to my image, i usually look through the code that i pasted and simply place my cursor at the start of the image name and hit enter to place the name below.. Just choose preview to see what your post will look like...

You are to me !!
And the sb6 does look amazing !!! But then I think a few Bimota's of that era have timeless styling , just don't seem to date. Change a few lights here and there and they would pass as a modern bike . Timeless beauties . |
