Hi folks, i am in need of a black box ecu for my YB9 Sri. The bike is only running on 1 & 4, i suspect the box.
Has anyone tried fitting Yamaha cdi unit to a bimota. I dont think this could be rocket science. Does anyone know of companys that can test these units? _________________ The Red Barron, Bimota YB9Sri, yamaha RD500lc, yamaha RD500 lc YZR replica, Ducati 750ss |

Does the SRI run with coils?
If so, my money is on a duff coil.
One coil fires 1 and 4, the other coil fires 2 and 3 |

Sounds like a coil to me too.
If you need a CDI it's a Yamaha FZR600R Foxeye or ThunderCat unit. The ThunderCat has a throttle sensor on the carbs so I'd guess at the 600R unit. _________________ Don't read everything you believe |

Thank you for the replies. I changed the coils over this evening unfortunately made no difference, no sparks on 1&4 this time. I will try plumbing in Thundercat cdi and let you all know the outcome. _________________ The Red Barron, Bimota YB9Sri, yamaha RD500lc, yamaha RD500 lc YZR replica, Ducati 750ss |

Well if you swaped the coils over and the spark has jumped to the other two cylinders........you've got a duff coil |

Exactly (or the wireing to that side is duff) ... fit a pair Dyna Coils and some pretty coloured HT leads. _________________ Don't read everything you believe |

Thank you oily and evil chicken but i think the coil has been eliminated as the problem, my thoughts are if the wiring from coil 1&4 which is sparking fine is swapped with wiring from coil 2&3 and then 2&3 is sparking fine then both coils are fine. _________________ The Red Barron, Bimota YB9Sri, yamaha RD500lc, yamaha RD500 lc YZR replica, Ducati 750ss |

Ok, now I've got more time..................
Sorry, I thought you had swapped the coils over not just the wiring
Now, I still think it's NOT the ecu. The ecu does not usually power the coils, just triggers them. They are usually powered from the fuse box via the kill switch. Check there is power to the duff coil, I'm figuring not. Cant be the kill switch as one coil is firing. My money has moved to dodgy connection, broken wire or duff earth.
If by chance, there is power to the duff coil, then you can start looking elsewhere
*take note*
I don't normally do Yam's so check a wiring diagram. |

Thanks for the reply Oily. I have checked connections and wiring everything is still like knew, all leads back to the ecu. I will try and set up the system from a Thundercat and see what happens. Though last night i see Martin has a YB9 Sri may ask him if i can send my ecu to him and have him run it on his bike, will confirm for sure then. _________________ The Red Barron, Bimota YB9Sri, yamaha RD500lc, yamaha RD500 lc YZR replica, Ducati 750ss |

Have you checked that there is 12v to BOTH coils? |
