Tuning the Bimota DB6 suspension.

One of my first impressions on the DB6 were about the riding and suspension.
Acceleration was great, with stiff rear the bike responds fast.
But the bike was very hard, stiff, over steering, and unstable.

First action was installing a steering damper. expensive but good improvement. But not enough.

Second action, replacing the tyres (bought her with bridgestone BT16) for Michelin Road 5 (my favourites). Great improvement. But  not enough.

Third action. tuning the suspension.
Setting spring pre load for 30mm rider sag.
on the front no problem. And adjusting compression and extension damping was easy.
On the rear, not possible. With minimum spring pre load, Static sag was almost inexisting and rider sag less than 20mm.
The original spring is 134-50-90. this means 134mm extended length, 50mm internal diameter, 90 N/mm spring rate.
Made a research about available springs, Extreme Tech now don't sell springs for the that model.
Found springs on an UK online shop, Demon Tweeks.
Decided for 127mm extended length (shorter for less pre load), 50mm internal diameter (this cannot be changed), and 79 N/mm spring rate (softer).

Replaced the string.

set pre load for 30mm rider sag.

Adjusted damping. set-ride-tryanothersetting-ride-tryagain- ride-
this is the log.

Now the ride a very good, stable, safe.

very important the adjusting of the extension damping.

Hope this can help you.

My weight is about 69kg, let's say about 73kg equiped.
with the new spring 127-50-79, no preload needed for sag about 30mm.

for higher rider weight the preload adjuster can compress more about 7mm,
that's about (7mm x 79N/mm / 9,8 N/kg) = 56kg more than 73kg.
