Hi

I am the first time owner of a Bimota SB2. I have not driven the bike since 1985 and are going to restore it.

My bike came originally in blue white (the colors of Riemersma, the Dutch importer of Suzuki and sponsor of Wil Hartog).

I would like to have it restored in the original white/red/black colors.

Does anybody know the exact colour codes of the red, white and black for this bike?

I further would like to redo the wheels. The originally came with a thin green/gold layer on it. Most wheels which have been painted are in my view too thick and glossy. Does anybody know the original surface treatment and who can still do this?

It painting is the only option, does anybody have the colour code which comes close?

Regards

Jeff

Hello Jeff, and glad to see another SB2 owner on the forum!

Can you post some pictures of your SB2? The blue/white color scheme was very rare, and it may have actually been applied by BIMOTA prior to delivery.

I have a couple questions regarding your post:

1.) You wrote that you are "the first owner of a Bimota SB2". Do you mean that you are the original owner?
2.) You wrote that the bike originally came blue white, yet you want to restore it in the original white/red/black colors. Was it originally blue white, or was it originally white/red/black?
3.) Is there any evidence that your SB2 was originally painted white/red/black prior to be painted blue/white? Any signs of white/red/black paint (in the correct locations) under the blue/white paint?
4.) I have an original SB2 that I could use to get the color matched (I have been planning on doing that for a while), as I do not know the paint codes that BIMOTA used originally.
5.) You are correct in that the original cast magnesium wheels have a very thin green/gold (zinc?) surface treatment. It does not appear to be paint.

Cheers!

Magnesium wheels were usually primed with yellow/green zinc chromate primer. Due to it being a carcinogen, this primer has disappeared from common use.

You will need a specialist to get them refurbished. One of the major wheel manufacturers had a service doing it. Was it Dymag or Marvic?

It are the original Bimota SB2 wheels.

As with regard to the other reply: my SB2 was built in 1978 and imported in the Netherlands in 1983. I am the owner since.

It came originally in blue white, with no red paint underneath it (see pictures NB too large to upload, will follow later).

I see on the internet one picture of a SB2 in blue, but could not find anything on the background of it. Does anybody know whether these bikes were originally also delivered in blue? I always thought that this had been done at the request of the DutchSuzuki/Bimota importer, but I am not certain.

If it is an original colour, I am hesitant what to do. Would like to make the bike original again, but think the bike is in red much nicer than in blue.

Jeff,
Is this the internet photo you are referring to?

Regarding what to do, its really up to you. I am a proponent of restoring back to original (i.e. how it left the BIMOTA factory). So its important to research that aspect, and determine what the original colors actually were.

Do you have any of the original import documentation?

Yes, that is the color. No, I dont have any import documentation anylonger. Bought it at the time from the Dutch Suzuki/Bimota importer, Riemersma
