So does the DB4 motor slot into the DB2J??

Yeah mate, it was too good of a deal to pass up, even though it turned out to be a 400 and not a 900 as the salesman and mechanic tried to tell me!

As 2bims says, below... the DB4 engine 'should' bolt straight in and I've already considered this. Not sure if I want to alter a fairly rare motorcycle though.

Thanks for your words of wisdom on the day mate

It would....only thing to check would be spindle size of rear swinging arm that goes through the back of the engine casing for its pivot point......Exhaust should bolt straight on also......Strangely...for the 400cc motor...which is a sleeved down 600 monster unit...Bimota still fitted the same Mikuni 38's as they did with the DB2 900...and...they used the same exhaust system also...pipe wise....which might be the only other thing to check......as maybe the 400's cylinders are shorter in height thus the bend and length of pipes may be different....as the headers on the DB4 wouldn't fit with DB2 under seat exhausts.....Oil cooler higher up on DB4 with line for carb de-icers...but this could be swapped and lowered down below....hanging off the horizontal valve cover as Ducati did.

Only one front disc though...and Bimota being Bimota...the LHS fork leg is a special with no lugs on it for a second caliper...not like Ducati did....but the DB4 forks would fit...and voila..twin disc..

There seems to be conflicting stories about the 400cc engine used in the DB2J. I've read a story stating that the engine is a sleeved down 600 as you say 2bims and then I've also read that the engine was actually a bored out 350cc engine. I'll have to try to do some research and look at the engine in the bike to see if I can work out what engine it actually is.

Finally cleared enough space in the shed for the new DB’s. Haven’t had time to pull the bodywork off the DB2 yet. Put a battery in the DB4, hooked up some fuel and gave it a run for a while. Carbs need a clean I think but runs not too bad considering it’s been sat for quite a while

Seems allright…..just needs a good blast down the road and back to clear its lungs...…

Its well worth pulling the airbox and seeing whats left of the foam filter in the airbox......You can easily replace with RamAir Foam cut to size and put back in.....the foam that Bimota use by now seems to disintegrate into a thousand pieces over time...almost like its biodegradeable or somesuch....

I'm loving the "just stick a long screwdriver" in either end of the hollow rear spindle and pop it up on a rear stand.....If I'd know you were that desperate for a few lengths of threaded rod I'd have chucked some into a care package for you Brian...…

Very "Heath Robinson" of you....I have to applaud....I could never do that...as I'd spend the next 3 days wondering where my screwdrivers had gotten to..... Laughing Laughing

Yeah I've got some Ramair foam in the stash, i'm using it in the other DB4 and the SB6.

I couldn't find a long enough piece of rod, so the screwdrivers will do the job nicely Wink

And didnt the DB2J have a smaller rear wheel Ie 4.00 rather than 5.50 ??

Yep, both wheels are different. I think the Junior has a 4.5” rear wheel. The front wheel is the same size (as the 900) at 3.5” but it only has 1 brake rotor.

Both of these bikes have been sitting unloved in the shed for a few weeks now and I’ll most likely not touch them until I catch up on some other jobs.

My motorcycle priority list is probably something like this at the moment....

1. Put the finishing touches on a ZXR750 track bike project that I started 6 years ago, so that I can finally get it on a track and ride it for the first time.

2. Strip and clean the carbs on the (my other) DB4 and do a couple minor fairing repairs so that I can ride it again.

3. Strip and clean the carbs on the SB6 and fit the newly acquired race exhaust system so that I can ride it again.

4. Strip and clean the carbs on the DB2 Junior, go over it properly and fix a few minor items so that I can ride it for the first time.

5. Swap all the good stuff from the ‘new’ DB4 onto my other DB4.

6. Start a complete frame up rebuild of the ZXR750R homologation bike that’s been sat here for 4 years..... this is a biggie Shocked Rolling Eyes

7. Do something with the leftover bits of the ‘new’ DB4.

8. Start again at the top of this list Crying or Very sad

A list?....Just the one list?....not other lists without things crossed off on them or left undone? How novel and appropriate....

One list? No other list?.... oh hell I have lists coming out of my arse! None of which have helped me thus far to get shit done. My new list above doesn’t include keeping my CBR race bike going and looking decent during the season and the thousand other jobs I have started around the house and yard. I’m just fortunate that my daily ride (VTX1800) is injected and it’s a Honda, so is very forgiving of my sins.

I’ve just realised that, now I need to print out my new list and display it in a prominent place in the shed Rolling Eyes
