Just thought I’d throw this out there to see if I can get any inspiration or ideas on what I can do with the new DB4 that I recently bought. I originally bought the bike for parts... my original DB4 was a daily rider in a previous life and therefore shows wear and tear from its daily life. I was planning on robbing any better parts from the parts bike for my bike and then either selling the rest on or hanging it on the wall of the shed.
Me being me, a classic ‘hoarder’ and foolish romantic, since getting the bike home and looking at it, I can’t bear to part it out or strip it and sell parts on . I hope to rescue it and bring it back to life ‘in some form’. I prefer my bikes to be original or to have nice subtle upgrades, so the thought of putting it together as something non-original goes against my grain a little. My problem is that it’s not economical to bring this DB4 back to original due to the cost of original bodywork. I have some ideas, but I’m not an ideas man by any stretch and suck at designing anything. Looking for ideas and thoughts

A warning....
This thread will most likely run for many years as I also suck at finishing projects . I just want somewhere to collate people’s ideas and maybe have a record of progress (hopefully).
At first glance this bike appears to have very low mileage on it so I will probably still rob the better parts off it for my other DB4. Some things that I may rob are...
Engine
Swing arm
Exhaust system
Fairing mounts
Brackets
Sprockets and chain
Carbon guards
Brake rotors
Wheels (possibly, if they clean up)
2 x frame bungs

Was there import approval, can it be registered?
Time for a cafe racer
I like the front of this, i just think the rear end looks heavy and wrong, though it started life as a DB3... Your rear subframe would be much easier to work with.
And look what this guy did with a Multistrada!!

Hmm thanks Steve, I’ve done a few google image searches but I haven’t seen those bikes before. Nice to actually see the same frame as mine done as a cafe racer (even though it’s a DB3 frame). On the Multistrada, i like that the rear subframe and the headlight bracket matches. This is the bike with my other seat / tank unit and an old headlight zip tied to the front. The front looks out of proportion to the rear.

Always difficult to change the look of a bike .
You do see some mega jobs that people do, but to get it right I believe there is lots of detail work thats required , with generally involves money.
I have a bit of a soft spot for the half fairing model, so if you thinking about buying a seat shell , why not make it a half fairing.

Yes I really like the look of the 1/2 faired DB4. I’ve never seen any any 1/2 fairing bodywork for sale and the only supplier (that I know of) only makes the full fairing version. I've been looking for a half fairing for years. Even considered buying a half fairing bike just to get a mold , I'm getting that desperate.
I suppose on the seat front a good seat upholster place should be able to make something up , they are quite simple. Backing plate with a bit of foam. |

Yeah there's a few options with regards to seat I guess. I've never even seen a seat for sale although I think BCP has one for a kings ransom. Robbin Gits...I'll bet they have them...just too bone idle to find them.....£465 for Paolos DB4 seat unit.....no locking mech...or tank pad though...he does have the ally bimota tank flap...thats quite reasonable at 130 euros or somesuch.....The key is another 500 euros to open it though... |
