Hi all,

Out on only my second run today and the front mudguard somehow made contact with the tire and wallop it was smashed to pieces.

Anyone have any ideas where I can get an original one or if I am stuck with a pattern from somewhere?

P.S. I am assuming today is the Bimota ownership baptism of fire!

There was one for sale on ebay in Australia from seller Nomisetat (Centrepoint Wholesale), but ive just had a look and it's no longer listed Crying or Very sad

I'm not sure what else is similar?? There's a couple companies that make reproduction bodywork for a couple Bimota models but not YB11, seen some for YB9, YB10, YB8, BB1, DB4, DB1, SB6, Tesi

Yup....Glens your man....I'd contact the dealer you bought it from and get the money back from him....As by law they have to give a 3 month warranty ON ALL bikes they sell...this would include ensuring the tiny button head bolts on the mudguard holding it on are tight...I would now be systematically checking ALL bolts and connections...as I've never heard of that happen on any bimota...M6 x 16mm bolts I recall ?...There is a lot of "play" in the fitment of these mudguards as they screw into bespoke Bimota brake caliper mounting bolts...but the heads are tapped and threaded to take the 6mm bolts from holding the mudguard on...There is 4 of the M6x16mm bolts and 2 washers on each bolt....

On the bright side...like the day its itself....its good to see you're using the bike and getting into the full swing of Bimota ownership

Re the "assumption" of Baptism of fire re Bimota ownership....Nah.....thats just like losing a couple of psi from a tyre that incident.....at least you bought a bike where theres still plenty of spares hanging around in peoples wardrobes and garages....I've been looking for indicators for my DB1 for 7 years now...and only seen (and bought) broken ones from ebay…. Shocked

I have contacted the dealer and I am awaiting a response, as well as the expense of the new mud guard the tire took a battering. I will let you know what they say. If I don't get any satisfaction I plan to take the bike to the local Yamaha dealer and get them to go over and do a report.

I did notice that this morning when I adjusted the chain the rear wheel spindle nut seemed loose.

Now the sense of disappointment has gone I have to say riding the bike around rural Northumberland was brilliant.

BEst of luck with the Yamaha Dealer.....when I asked my local Yammie dealer if he would service my YB11 he looked at me like I was stupid....I explained the engine etc...and he just shook his shoulders and went Nope.....

Have you downloaded the Workshop Manual yet or did I send it to you? THis has the torque settings in it which will be different from that of the Thunderace...as nothing in the wheels, discs, spindles, forks or swingarm is Yamaha related...basically you have the Yamaha Engine and electrics and some switchgear...maybe....


Have you adjusted the chain with you sat on the bike?

I have printed the manual and have had it bound so it looks original.......

It can be a point of discussion, chain tension....the very early bimotas had a swingarm postioned directly over the front sprocket Spindle/shaft...thus achieving the same constant of shcin tension regardless of movement of the swingarm....I check my chain tension with someone on the bike as the set up is that with a rider the chain tensions up....and you dont want it too tight....also under acceleration the front rises a little and squishes the rear down....making it even more taught

I got it form The Bike Specialists in Sheffield. the wife and kids wanted me to drive them there for a weekend shopping and I bought the YB11 which wasn't what "er indoors" was wanting.

I actually live in Seaton Delaval near Whitley Bay. Are you South of the Tyne?

Not that I've been to the Bike Specialist at Sheffield... but going by the ads and articles I've read it would be a dangerous place to go window shopping
