Hello all - Are there any options out there for aftermarket exhausts for the DB2 these days?

I'm interested in exploring whether there is a lightweight, freer-breathing alternate, or whether it would be a case of custom-building from a standard unit..

Regards,
Mike

Yeah - I knew it would be somewhat optimistic, but also held out a little hope that someone reading this might have a set on their shelf for a rainy day!

Hi Mike, there is one in germany available :

https://www.ebay.de/itm/Bimota-Ducati-db2-db2sr-Auspuff-Carbon-OEM-exhaust-muffler-High-Up-silencer/223766800787?_trkparms=aid%3D111001%26algo%3DREC.SEED%26ao%3D1%26asc%3D20160908131621%26meid%3De5015621720940db914151b320c522fe%26pid%3D100678%26rk%3D2%26rkt%3D15%26sd%3D133252235182%26itm%3D223766800787%26pmt%3D0%26noa%3D1%26pg%3D2380057&_trksid=p2380057.c100678.m3607&_trkparms=pageci%3Ae2d6d08f-1294-11ea-87da-74dbd180348e%7Cparentrq%3Ab6c0e75316e0a4d0efa0df7bffde237c%7Ciid%3A1

Lovely...and with the central fixing bracket also...but really...??..How much?....I'd wager a specialist exhaust company would make one in Titanium for that price....

Thanks Roland -

Well - I bought the one in Japan, and I suspect that by the time that I've paid for shipping, it'll probably cost a similar amount to the one in Germany. I found the one in Japan to be interesting as it also removed the two-into-one-into-two on the pipework.

(though, I loved the use of the toilet roll in the pics from Germany Laughing )

Thanks,
Mike

Actually - I've just realised - the one in Germany is just a standard exhaust with the aluminium sleeves replaced with carbon tubes - the part number is the same as on my current one.

I've got the same exhaust as the German Ebay one on my DB2 EF. I was told when I bought the bike it was a factory option carbon fiber exhaust. Haven't looked closely but that makes sense to me as my bike came with the aluminum canister standard mufflers in a box and they look exactly the same except for the bodies of the mufflers. Given Bimota production practices, if the part number is printed on the metal, I wouldn't be surprised if they didn't change it when the produced the CF bodied version.

I've seen a few Db2's with seemingly the same system but Carbon tubes and not alloy anodised....and I had heard it was an optional extra...carbon fibre was prohibitively expensive in 1993...so sparingly used.....I dont know though whether it was an Open race can or one with baffles in?

DB5R when bought new came with HEAVY baffled end cans...black painted steel...BUT....they also came with straight bolt on straight thru open ultralight Oval Zard Titanium end cans...…..they utilise the same bracket....I dont know of any other manufacturer where Extra unbaffled cans come as "standard"....sure..many offer it as an extra...and most modern Ducatis are strangled from new to meet emissions and NOise levels for homologation...BUT....they do offer unbaffled cans but again...at a price..and an option....and TBF....they dont run right if you dont run the open cans on them

See that there is the problem, not the fact you are on all of them Laughing Shocked but the fact there are 8 and probably more.
Far easier if there is just one place to focus Bimota attention on TBH .

My '94 DB2 has the same carbon fiber exhaust (and bracketry) as the one in the dBay auction. Can't say the bike came with it as I'm not the first owner, but mines very original and I'd be surprised if it didn't come with the exhaust as it is. Pretty sure there are dampers inside the tubes but will check the next time I pull it out from its hiding place. It has a nice deep throaty sound, not too loud, but enough to get your attention in a good way! Very Happy

Yes - my existing DB2 exhaust definitely has a pleasant note to it.. it's currently somewhere in between the nice low-level throb of my factory standard 916, and the wholly antisocial racket of my 888.

With advanced apologies to my neighbours - I'm expecting the new exhaust will bring the DB2 to be closer to the 888 in terms of volume Shocked
