Hi everyone,

Been sourcing parts and trying to put the DB10 back together. With the help of 2 Bims I have managed to locate most of the parts and services to try and get it in one piece. I will try and put some pictures up here if you would like to see its progress?

I am pleased to say that I am back to good health and have recovered enough to get the bike finished. I will await prompts from you guys, not wishing to be overly gory in details do wish to see some of the injuries I sustained (All healed now) or just the bike?

hear from you soon.

Scratched tank and handlebar end

Footrest and gear change lever

Side Plate

Rear Footrest

Tank Scratched

Rear chain adjuster

Generator cover

Fork Leg damaged

Enough of the damage, I have had some items repaired/manufactured then Steve mentioned that Camcoat have an anodising process called "Diamondize" these are some of the items that have had that process applied to them. Sometimes it works.

And sometimes it doesn't, these parts have both been welded up then re-profiled using a milling machine and lathe. The process has left a "witness" mark on both items.

However a light dusting of wheel silver and I think it looks OK

Generator cover repaired, I bead blasted the casing, then applied some aluminium filler (for repairing alloy wheels) sanded back down to achieve a flat surface then re-painted with "Gun Metal" stove paint from Charnwood, coat of lacquer, then its good to go.

Fitted to the bike.

I had the fork leg repaired, welded and filed back to correct shape and then had it bead blasted to mimic the original sand cast look. Had it not worked out as I wished I would then have had both fork legs painted Satin Black.

When I stripped the forks Steve and I had a trip with the stanchions to visit Howard, who arranged to get the fork stanchions re-coated with DLC. New seals from SKF fresh oil and I also reduced the air gap by 15mm away from the Matris instructions, in an effort to stop the forks from bottoming out. I think they look good.

Finally for this evening one of the elusive Steve, he came over when compiling photos to submit to the insurance as evidence for the claim (thanks for all your assistance)

Had the tank re-furbished to try and disguise the scratch, I know it not original but I personally like the look of it also had the carbon fibre parts re-lacquered in stone chip resistant lacquer... Hmm time will tell.

Tank with new green and red stripes

Side scoop

New nose cone located by Steve and re-lacquered. The nose cone not Steve, although I possibly owe him a drink or three

Glened ....good to see you back...pity we didn’t met up at Madchester Show.

As for your alloy pieces....anything that has been welded on aluminium will leave a witness when metal treated.

You have to weld with a special rod in order to get round the problem

All alloy welders do it..its more faff but the item can then the treated and it looks as one

If you want to get round it...you have to re weld with a new rod after making sure all of the old weld is machined or ground off

I hope that this helps

Yes....It came as a surprise for my other friend also whos building a Vincent Comet single 500 "scrambler"...he had hand made English Wheel rolled alloy tank, seat unit and sidepanels made up....brush rough finish that he wanted to retain....but for longevity and ease of maintenance...he had then "diamondized" by CamCoat….a new process and facility for them....and they came up with the same black grey marks where ALL the welds were on the tank panel fabrication and single seat unit....he wasn't a happy bunny that Camcoat weren't aware this would happen....

DOnt forget to put pictures up of the silver Mitsubishi Gallant that T boned you......as it shows the hole dead centre of his front valance punctured by your footpeg.....and it took out his headlights, front bumper and headlights and bonnet......Dead centre T-bone....almost like your left "boot" had a bullseye target on it.....cracking Marksman skills as the plonker drove straight across at the T junction not knowing you were riding between a car in front and a car behind you...

Hi Gavin,

Thanks for the reply, the chap who welded both parts for me was/is supposed to be a coded welder, listening to him he knows everything there is to know about welding aluminium... Hmm maybe I should have listened to my gut instinct "empty vessels make the most noise". I will try and locate a specialist aluminium welder.

Cheers for the info

Glened

He probably was a coded welder...but if did not know that you were going to anadise it after welding ...he wouldn’t have known which rod to use.

The correct rod is either one with extra silicon or one without....I know not.

Anyway....tug your welders apron and next time tell him that you intend to metal finish/ coat after welding.

Hope this helps

Gavin
Not a welder.....and no silicon in me

Hi Gavin,

Thanks for the email. I will take your comments on board and try to find a welder that understands the criteria. For the short term I have painted it with wheel silver and it looks ok. with regards to the foot rest I have painted that as well but I could always purchase a pair of Oberon and get the holder re-made to suit. I have mentioned it to Steve and he will have a word with Mr Vdue next time they speak.

Regards Glen

PS when all this Corona Virus is behind us we will have to have a meet up.

Glen

Some more pictures. As per Steve's suggestion here are some pics of the car involved and pics of the injuries sustained. I have put these up to show that however careful we are there is always something you don't expect. I never saw him coming at all, and to this date I have no memory of the accident. If you find these offensive please let me know and I will take them down or photoshop my head off Very Happy

Pictures of the bike in happier times, compliments of Steve.

Ouch, look nasty. I had a highside crash 2 years ago while racing and busted my shoulder, the images looked similar to yours. Mine was a grade 4 AC joint separation. The most drawn out and painful recovery from an injury that I’ve ever had. Good to hear you’re on the mend and getting the bike back in shape.

Out in the sun

Finally completed Bimota and got her off the ramp for some pics in the sun. Just the footrest pins to make and she will be complete, looking forwards to the time when the Covid 19 is behind us and we can hopefully get out and meet up with family and friends. In the meantime enjoy the pictures.

Regards Glen

When I wrecked my MV F4 I do not recall what led up to the accident. I do remember going off the side of the road and going down. Glad you are recovering. Did you go over the bars?
