I remember this being built "back in the day" Duncan.
The purists were having fits
It had to be built from the remains of a crashed bike because there was no front end with it when the guy started it unless the front end was robbed for somthing else. Back then the SB6 front end was very trick.
Not got the original radiator or oil cooler which would also have been wrecked in a front ender along with the clocks fairing lights etc.
Unfortunatly, not a lot of Bimota remains on this bike and you probably would struggle to re-coup your money by breaking it.
All that said, I think it is quite an interesting project for someone and right up my street
Will be very interested to see how much it sells for if indeed it sells |

when you start to look at the detail on it it falls apart. The nose cone bars are all a bit naff (and to high), the fork brace is on the other side too ... I wonder if it was a 6R frame.

Just shows to me how important the integrity of the design is from the original concept. For me the oversized beam frame only works with the oversized front forks of the original equipment. A bull terrier would look very odd with a whippets legs ? _________________ Pomps

You can bolt a steering damper just about anywhere
when this was built, the 6r was a very rare thing indeed
P.S. The 6R also has an engine mounting hole half way up the frame rail.

It isn't like me to post negative opinions on a forum, but I think that bike is hideous. Good job that taste is subjective otherwise it would never be sold and I notice someone has bid the best part of 2k already. |

Yes the bikini fairing is way too high, that can be moved down
The front does look skinny due to the bikini fairing being too high and no front fairing covering 80% of the forks as per the original
And as for being hidious........ coming from a man who bought a ducati

Not only those points, what about the fact that it's a non runner and potentialy it's going to be an expensive fix
The engine is already out of the bike and he broke the clutch basket taking it apart
What else has he had his non mechanicly sympathetic hands on.
I'm struggling to find a positive thing to say about it.
It's not even a good source for parts at that money so I'll leave it there |

When you say you remember this bike , were from ?
If it's the one I think it is , it was built by West Coast salvage in Southport. The frame was part of a shipment they bought in from Japan , and the rest was , well from their stock . At the time the only bit of body work they could get was the seat/tank unit.
Have seen the bike many times , as they used me SB to get measurements etc from.
From memory I guess it was assembled around 98-2000 mark. |

I went to look at a damaged SB6 at west coast which had a dented frame and crackerd bodywork in about 98
It was too expensive for me and i think that's what they used to build their fighter which incedently looked a lot better than this one
The one on eghay was featured in SF magazine in 97 so unless anyone know's better........
I remember this bike from being fetured in SF mag and mentioned several times in other publications. I also saw it in the flesh at a few bike shows of the time |

The 6R mounts the damper on the left on the outside of the frame and the 6 on the right just above the rad.
All the 6 and 6R's that I've seen have the engine top mount hole. _________________ Don't read everything you believe |

yes, the 6R mounting is on the left. A welded stub right in the middle of the frame rail.
If you look at the angle of the damper in the picture it, no way, goes to the centre of the frame rail
As I said, you can fit a damper anywhere.
This IS a SB6 frame |
