Rear master cylinder(standard Brembo), gear lever and linkage and brake lever too.
Better start sorting through the bits to see what you aint got
You can always swap some of those spare fairings for the bits you need |

Hia Keith, thanks for the letter, I'm happy to switch the light on for you with that bike.
You are correct that the bike you have was the 1st SB6 in the UK. It was imported by Galleria Bimota, and was their demo and press bike. So yes, it's had a hell of a hard life! The motor is non-original, as the original motor was tuned and sold before I bought it. I bought it in 2000, as a (VERY) crashed bike. It had been involved in a head on, and the frame was damaged at the headstock. It was also stripped, and many parts missing. I found the motor in a GSXR, and fitted that after repairing the frame. I had the jig for a while, as we had to use another frame to make a jig up, to allow us to remove the headstock bearing cups, and replace them as they were very badly ovalled. It was then motoliner checked for true. 0.003" out, so better than most factory frames by some margin!!!!
There was a parts book and manual with the bike, together with all the owners manuals/test features etc that the bike was featured in.
I modified the airbox, to remove the standard filter and run the bike on individual filters, as the stock bimota airbox is way to small, and a massive restriction but is needed to support the rear of the inner fuel tank. I had also sighted the battery in the remains of the old airbox, as I felt the batteries mounted so high, up behind the headlight to be kinda rediculous!
The rear shock was fully serviced too and the swingarm is the correct one, as pictured in MCN etc at the time!!
All the bodywork came from Thoroughbred Motorcycles in Australia, when the business was sold, along with alot of the spares. Many are thrashed and bashed from racing, but the red fairing and seatunit are genuine Bimota items, the white/red are copies. I have the molds for that too should anyone need SB6 bodywork, though demand is never gonna make me a rich man!
Can't think of anything else, but feel free to mail me with any questions. I have a good amount of experience with the SB6/SB6R, and still own a 6R which is very special!
Oh yes, the clutch mod was done on the bike too, that massively improves clutch feel and action. The forks are non-original, they are out of my 6R which donated them when I fitted the Ohlins to the 6R, as are the Goldline calipers master cylinders. They should be stock GSXR1100W masters on that bike.
To be fair, it is in pretty much the same stae as when I sold it, so not much has been done if anything. I had the motor running, but that looks to have taken a backward step.
Anyway, hope my ramblings help,
Daz. |

I expect the clutch mod will be to change the original diapram clutch to a pressure plate type

Thanks for the welcome!
Clutch mod - the SB6 uses a (very) cut down slave cylinder mounting/front sprocket cover from the GSXR100W, but the amount they cut away is too much, and leaves bolts on only one side of the slave cylinder. With a little use, the 2 remaining bolts turn into hinges rather than securing bolts, and allow as much movement of the slave cylinder away from the motor as it creates movement of the pushrod through the motor.
The mod I do, uses a less extensive cut away of the front sprocket cover, so bolts are used on both sides of the clutch slave. The 6R is like this from the factory (pmsl) but the SB6 was the learning model!
Keith, ask away with questions too, no problem there!
The red bodywork is Bimota bodywork with the holes glassed over, which was then used to rip the molds from to make the other fairings. If you look carefully, you can see the OE decals still under the paint. That is actually the wrong faining tho, as the bike should have the small headlights and be white/red/carbon.
I hate riding at night, so was just gonna run it on a Daylight only MOT, but time/money and racing got in the way. Plus I have the 6R to play with, or at least I did until I highsided it and threw it at a marshals post at Rockingham!!!! Arse!!!!!!!!!!!
Thanks,
Daz. |
