Hi

I'm re-installing the original dials and dash lights on my bike - less the fake-wood dash if possible! I have 6 lights - left to right

1 - Yellow - not working
2 - Red - Oil Light, working
3 - Yellow - Both Indicators, working
(gap)
4 - Green - Neutral, working
5 - Red - Battery, not working
6 - Blue - high beam, working

Any idea what 1 should do? Any idea what to check on 5?

ps I don't have a manual or wiring diagram

thanks, and Happy New Year

Robin

Hi Robin
not sure which model you have, or indeed if they differ, but I've just been out to the garage to check mine, and they are, from left to right (as sat on the bike)

BLUE Hi Beam
ORANGE Indicator
GREEN Neutral
(gap)
RED Oil Pressure
YELLOW Lo Fuel
RED Ignition

If there is sufficient fuel in the tank, the lo-level light won't function.
From memory, the red ignition light is fed from the ignition switch - obviously you have checked the bulb - check the holder hasn't fallen out of the back of the panel (my oil pressure switch has and I can't be arsed dismantling it to put it back in!)

HTH

Garry.

Thanks for your reply. I've changed the tank for a custom-made one, and don't have a sender in the new tank, so that explains it! I'll have another look at the battery light, and put some more pictures up when done.

Fair question - yes, I have the 2-battery arrangement. Looks ugly, but I can't really work out where else to put a single battery. I suppose when I was having the tank made I should have specified a gap for a battery behind the headstock. I'll put a picture up when the latest mods are done.

my bike runs a single battery from the left-hand battery box. starts OK with this set up (although it was like this when I bought it - I just fitted a new battery).

I know someone who fitted a DB4 battery tray, under seat, to their mantra , got the box from Bimota for about £75. There was a person in germany selling db4 trays for about £25 before christmas on ebay, non on at the moment.

Hi

I've now removed the batteries and cases - this cleans up the whole front end, so they won't be going back. I just need to put them somewhere else...

I tried connecting just 1, and it cranks the engine fine, so no need for 2. I think I can make a cradle for it next to the shock under the seat - as far back as possible to avoid the heat from the rear header. That's the plan.

Also started polishing up all the ally - looks great, but once you start it's hard to stop! The tank is now shining, got to take the wheels and swingarm off to do it right. I'll put a picture up once close to done. So, what colour for the mudguard and seat base, to go with polished alloy? I don't want black, but I can't picture a bright colour against the shiny alloy.

ps I had read about LiFeO4 battery technology, so I asked my local battery specialist, but he said they would only last a year, and are pricy - one for the race teams only, I think.

If you look on the db4 gallery on the enthusiasts site , there's a few pictures of the battery position.

Thanks, got it. I notice the rear subframe is different to the Mantra. I had a look for any for sale on Ebay, but couldn't see any. Do you know anyone else who might have one?

Hi GeeKay

No, not a subframe. I need a battery tray, though I might just chop an old fireblade one up that's hanging around. If you have the real thing, let me know.

Keep an eye on fleaBay. Now and then there's a db4 battery tray offered. However, your Mantra subfame has to have the inserted fitting threads inside the LH side otherwise it just won't stick. So maybe it's a better idea to make one yourself from thicker sheet metal. I can give you the dimensions and send some pics, as my db4 is under construction at this moment.
