Heard back about the cams - the inlet is a low lift
Quote: |
The standard inlet is base circle 28mm cam height 33mm so 33 - 28 = 5mm of valve lift which is not too good Where as the one kent cam i'm using is base circle 27mm cam height 35.6mm so 35'6-27= 8.6mm of valve lift |
So - I finally have an answer how the engine was restricted _________________ Don't read everything you believe |

that'll be it then
Matter of interest...my inlet cam has a base circle of 28mm and a cam height of 36.5 mm
36.5 - 28 = 8.5mm lift so not too different to the Kent cam grind.
I'll look up the standard gsxr cam lift shortly for comparison |

and others ..........8.4mm lift
E-04....................4.7mm lift
E-18, 33 and 39... 7mm lift

Just wondering evilchuck................
When you originaly built your engine, did you check the valve to piston gap?
Bearing in mind it originaly had a low lift cam and then you fitted high compression pistons and high lift cams. |

It was checked and checked again by the pressant guy (who's very precise), he reckons it spat a shim because the cam / cam follower tollerance was to great (I'd originall though he said it was to tight but he was taking imperial and I'm a metric man).
There's some oilcooled Yoshi cams on german e-bay atm. _________________ Don't read everything you believe |

Yes - the parts are all together and the engine's being built up. He said at the end of the month because he didn't want to not deliver ... which is a refreshing change. Usually they promise and don't deliver for ages.
He didn't use the Kent inlet and Std exhaust cams though, he subbed in a pair 750 ones instead so I'll sell them on after this. _________________ Don't read everything you believe |

How do the 750 cams compare to the 1100 cams for lift and duration? |

I'm not really the one to talk to about the details but here's part of the e-mail

Just a quick up date on your bike. I've made some changes the kent cam I was going to use is no good [ well I'm not happy with it ] the lift feels too agressive I can hardly turn it. So I've picked up a set of 750's your loosing just 1mm of lift 8mm instead of 9mm but you gain 1mm on the base circle so not so agressive a much better cam. |

Do you have a wiring diagram that you could share?

While I was rumaging through the Bimota manual I found this
Marks and timing for FRENCH market cams. Remember I said my bike would only push 100bhp and that I couldn't find any restrictors. I always suspected it was low lift cams and this seems to proove that therory. |

There isn't a wiring diagram as such there's a "layout" but it doesn't have any wire colours on it. The Bimota loom doesn't keep the same colours as the standard Suzuki loom, or at least the colours change when they go from an ancillory part to the main loom.
I used the Suzuki diagram and once I'd worked things out I marked all the connections with coloured zipties - I bought a tub of them from Maplins. _________________ Don't read everything you believe |
