Well the batteries are dead ... no surprise really it's sat in other peoples garages for nearly 18months with those two. I've decided to fit one of those posh Racing Batteries which should be interesting.
I'll give you a picture when I get one _________________ Don't read everything you believe |

Well the battery is a bit of a miss I'm affraid, it's too deep. That's the dimension from the front to back where the lights are. I could remake the battery box and loose one light but I like the extra candle at night and I changed them to H4 too. It's a shame because it's a dinky little thing, well, for a battery anyway.
The good news is I went to see it last night and picked up all the bits left over from the build. I got all the paperwork too. The builder, Peter Redgwell has done a good job and really looked after the bike, he found a few things and put them right rather than just leaving them.
There's a dyno graph too, if your interested like _________________ Don't read everything you believe |

I was told the twin K+N's don't fit with the seat unit so I guess you'd need to go with sock pe ones - I think pipercross make them.
He's modded the Bim's airbox so you fit the 2 centre rubbers to the carbs and the 2 outside ones stay in air box, then slip air box over centre rubbers ...
Simon from Race Engineering fitted up a K+N flat panel to the airbox but proof is in the pudding so we'll see when I ride it. |
Just to let you guys know that I had a lot of trouble with single KNs, it never ran OK with them. I don't have an airbox and the bike was fitted with these when I got it.
After some research and a lot of unsuccessfull tests with single filters I finally fitted these pipercross filters and it ran perfectly.

I'm glad your bike troubles are over with your engine.
How about this dyno graph then? |

It's ... um .... swift.
and smooth
and it still has that ability to be put in top from 30mph
God I've missed this bike !!!
The engine builder is Peter Redgwell of Performance based in Cressing near Braintree. Not only did he do the engine he sorted some of the bits out that I didn't even know had gone wrong. The fan switch, and temp sender for example where changed just to be sure. He's done work for me before and I have no hessitation in recomending him.
PM me if want his number. _________________ Don't read everything you believe |

I flatted out the paint on the fairing (taking out the drips and peel) then polished it back up with compound. I missed a couple of bits but it's ok for a sponge on a drill
I've noticed the fairing is flexing where the side stand is catching it - so I'll need to cut and strenghten it. I also need to line the seat unit with some heat wrap, so more jobs to do. _________________ Don't read everything you believe |

Looking good
and there's always jobs to do on older bikes
What's with the heat wrap? is it because you want to or are you actually feeling the heat? |

It's kevlar foil adhesive ... I get a bit of heat through the saddle, it's not much but I might as well do it while I can. I have to strip the inside of the tail unit anyway _________________ Don't read everything you believe |

Looks great. I have dyno graph envy!
What's the story with the mirrors/signals? I like them. |

I wanted to move the indicators off the fairing you see it's been filled and looks cleaner.
got a pair of Torpeado indicators, it was a couple of years ago and there weren't so many shapes that would suit the mirror, and I wanted something led and legal size. I gutted the indicators sanded the circuit boards to get them a bit narrower.
When I took the mirror apart I found it mounts on a big ball joint so I could only mount it in the one place. I cut a hole, it's tough plastic, so the clear lens fitted. I moulded the blank end and stuck the lens onto the mirror with plastex. I drilled a hole for the wires so it misses the mounting and another in the fairing. The circuit boards arn't fixed but held by spongy foam and gaffa tape so I can replace them if they fail.
If I was doing it again I'd want a strip of single leds but that would need to be custom made and I've got some othr jobs to do first. _________________ Don't read everything you believe |

Does anyone recommend removing the rubber mat below the airbox? |

I don't think you'd gain anything but the loss could be more dirt from the chain right by the airbox intake - I'd keep it. _________________ Don't read everything you believe |
