Hi

Just joined the forum and thought I'd say hello.

Not a biota owner yet but on the look out for a sb6 or yb11.

Test rode both in the 90's but never got round to buying one.

Seem to remember I thought the yb11 the better bike at the time?

Before I take the plunge what are the pris and cons of biota ownership?

Are spare parts still readily available?

I'm base in east northants anyone close by?

Welcome to the forum
Parts are still about but hopefully you'll only need service items which are of course available from you local yam or Suzuki dealer. Anything Bimota specific that you can't find, well, you just do what bimota do and have them made
The YB is probably a better all round package and better finished than the early SB6's and probably the later sb6's too. SB6's are easier to find and better to thrash and also easier to find spares for

Welcome to the forum. It is worth raking through most of the postings in all sections of the forum, you will get a general feel as to whats good/bad about Bimota ownership.

As a generality, the first generation Bimotas,SB,YB,KB,do require to be well looked after,most use jap equipment from 70/80/90 era,as these bikes are now becoming collectors items spares can be quite expensive and hard to find.Dependant upon whether you want originality or are willing to adapt other parts to fit is a factor also.

The second generation,after 2000, SB8,DB ,being more recent, spares and components are more freely available and just as expensive.

All bimotas are quite compact and thus challenging to work on

This all said,they are the most amazing fun to use and own,do not think i will ever part with mine.

I've got a very tidy YB11, 2003 with 3000 miles from new.
If you want to take a look for idea on condition etc you're welcome, I'm in Kidderminster (as is Oily!)

As an owner of both a YB11 and a SB6 I would say there was no comparison really.
I bought the YB for the sole purpose of the second seat and as a commuter. Fit and finish - Better some say - NO , different maybe. SB6's have a one piece fairing , looks great, but pain in the arse to remove, were as the YB is in about 8 pieces. They went from one extreme to the other.
YB seating position is strange, with legs tucked up high. SB just feels perfect fo a 6ft 13.5 stone person.
Handling - again YB feels strange and SB just seems to suit.Then there's the issue of the YB fork seals, or the lack of should we say.
So for me the SB6 would win hands down , but then that's just me.

That's a refreshing review from some one who owns both. I'm a great fan of the SB6 (that's why I own more than one) but always thought the YB11 looked better finished. That might be because the last YB11 that I saw close up was Philfingers which is an exceptionally mint, low mileage and very clean example

Question you have to ask , which do you see most for sale ? Over 1100 SB6's were made and only 650 YB11's, and yet a quick scan of anywhere on the net , worldwide, will see more YB than SB for sale !
So either most SB6's have been scraped, are in bits in Oily's garage or are the perfect bike that their owners will not part with them !
Household management has restricted me to 3 Bimota's ( well for now anyway) , so if a nice SB8k or DB7 (at the right price) arrives, I will not hesitate as to which one has to bite the bullet.

Oh and that's the other problem with Bimota ownership, one is never enough.
Now , is that because they are stylish and exotic italian machines, or is it because you never know which one will start in the morning ?????
