So finally you all agree. Ducati people want to buy Ducati bikes. If Bimota cant buy enough jap engines then they have to look at frame and rolling gear options to survive... Diversify or die, simple... obvious... sad... I rest my case.

Personaly , I dont see the point in frame kits.
The days of taking a motor out of a Gixer have long gone. You can't just take the engine, you need the ecu, the fly-by-wire controls, sensors for this, sensors for that. How many 20 somethings do you know that can fix or are willing to fix a bike these days ??
Bimota will not find any new customers there, just 40 something's that dream of what they did when they were young. Would you spend 10k on a frame kit Oily / Pomps ?
Vyrus make kits for there moto2 986 bike , 16k and just add your own CBR600. How many people out there are going to spend that sort of money on a kit to build themselves. Before you know it you will have spent the £25,000 it cost's to buy a complete bike.
Bimota do need to diversify and add new products . At the moment they seem to be shadowing Ducati models, superbikes, supermoto etc. They need to go somewhere the big boys can't or wont. For me it would me that would be an ultra light moto2 style bike. All the power you can use on the road and superlight handling to use that power.

You argue against it vort but if they produced a light weight frame and bodykit with ohlins suspension and light wheels for 8 grand that you could stick a cbr600 engine that has no electronic gimmicks i would jump at it... so would everyone else.

Problem is those wheels/forks/shock alone would be 5k. That leaves 3k for frame, swinging arm, body kit and developement. Not possible.
How much do you think Mr Honda spends to make a Fireblade ? Bet you if it was 6-7k he would not be happy. The rest is for design/development and profit.

Possible maybe for 8K, but we would be talking Ebay NOS from obscure locations, that would not necessarily go together. Oz or Dymag wheels new 2K plus, Carbon bodywork, if painted 3K plus,(Paint nowadays for quality would cost 1K alone), Full Ohlins front and rear 2K, leaves you a grand for a frame, no swinging arm, brakes, electrics, clocks, where do you stop? And then stick a 500squid CBR600 engine in it? Sure it would be a great bike, but only worth less than half the sum of its parts, hence theres no market for this. And surely Bimota want to move away from their 70/80's days and build Full bikes, and get rid of the Kit-Car image?

I'm sure there would be more takers in the UK if the image was more prominent. And although some would moan, I'm sure if you would stick a DB5R, Db7/8 in ANY Main Ducati dealership AND importantly offer a Factory Warranty and Main Dealer Servicing then there would be lots of takers. The BUT though is that Ducati Dealers buy a license from Ducati to sell Ducatis AND only Ducatis, they have to buy from them, and be forced to take some bikes they may not want. They can sell other models, but only if taken in PartEx, so No Bimotas there then, and Would Kawasaki/Honda/Suzuki?yamaha dealers take them? No coz they would have the same deal with the main factory and more still, not be able to give a warranty or even service them. And thats the market today. If you are going to drop 20-30K on a new toy, 99% of buyers want a warranty and someplace they can drop if off for servicing, or even changing a fuse etc etc. They want the bikes "valeting" and they want a courtesy bike to go home on, none of this drop the bike off and take the bus home, gone are the days....

OK. As you have a greater knowledge about frame suppliers how much do the spondon frame kits go for ( or similar )

They can produce a frame and bodykit that you have painted or pre painted options and make a very good profit on 8k per item... You just need a doner 600 that doesn't need to be new. Sure its a small market but a lot bigger then no market at all.
