This happened to me before with my SB8K. In my case, I just had to remove the belly-pan, trace the ignition coil harness and ground wire to the coil unit where it was loose and tighten. It vibrated loose.
If you have already looked here, then check for moisture between the ECU and the main harness connector.
Obviously, it may be the coil itself though. Hope this helps and that its not the ECU.
Best,
George Villar |

Morning Gents , sorry for leaving you hanging but quite a busy day yesterday, only returned home at about 5.30pm and girlies family birthday party last night , so straight back out again after unloading bikes.
So here goes, Iwill try to keep brief.
Monday night start vdue , one last check over OK. ( 2Bims and Nige had been over at the weekend and SM sounded not quite right). Over to SM , whirling around, stunk of fuel, would fire every now and then but would not start. after a few minutes battery was flat ( headlight constantly on) so pulled plug, brn't off fuel, clean and left out for cylinders to dry, battery on charge, all will be ok tomorrow !!
Tuesday morning, loaded vdue in trailer then to the SM , battery on, just whirling around not even trying to fire. Fairings off. Where's the fuse's, look in handbook , NOTHING, looked in manual, NOTHING.All bodywork off by this time , where the F'in 'ell are the fuse's. Looked in wiring diagram, mention of fuse's but no box , are they in series ??, all wires seem to go to the clock's, and I know it will not run without the clocks, So maybe they're in the clocks ???? I knew clutching at straw's, but hey this is Italian. Clocks off, stripped, NO, fuse's not in there !! GREAT.
Right then. Fuel pump - CHECK , fuel - CHECK, starter motor - CHECK , spark - spark - NO SPARK- GREAT. Coils - NO SIGNAL - BOLLOCKS , check all connectors, wiring diagram ???? Still no fuses other than the 30A main. SM battery flat my this time( unplugged headlight so lasts a bit longer), battery off YB11, SM battery on charge, battery off boat as a jumper . OK , were to start. Back to wiring diagram, starter circuit, fuse on side stand switch , WHAT FUSE'S ???? , ok , side stand switch, no signal, switch sounds a bit rough, short out switch connector, RESULT , power to coils !! But still just whirling not even attempting to fire. Plugs out, black and soaking, heat and dry, back in , still nothing, plug out, earthed , NO SPARK, coils checked again, SPARKING, find spare plug from YB, earthed, plugged to HT, fires , BOLLOCKS, both plugs out, YB old ones in, Bloody thing starts. Off to motor factors for correct plugs, fitted SM purring like a good one but stinks of fuel . Now 11.30, SM in bits . Back together but without the fairing for ease of loading and saving time. Bikes loaded and tied down by 12.30 and off to VOSA.
Vdue first to test as I finish putting the SM back together.
Weigh it, total and both axles, test brakes, test lights, up on ramp for measuring and general inspection, off ramp , fire it up, 2-stroke , OH says the inspector ,( Great I thought going to say he can't progress even though I ticked the 2-stroke box on the forms) , we can't do emission tests on a 2-stroke , Oh this is sounding bad !!!! , SO WHAT HAPPENS NOW , Oh we just put PASSED !!!!! , ( Things are looking up) , Noise test , Oh NO NEED is got stamped exhausts ( Thankyou Nige ) . Right sit on the bike and we will do pedestrian impact. Wheel out a funny shaped bollard and bounce it off the bike. A few things , main one being a sharp leading edge on the front mudguard ( same as all yb11,sb6,db2/3/4 etc) , quick pull of the fairing trim off the SM has the vdue passed, Relatively painless. And that was mean't to be the hard one.
Right SM, (now 2.30 and they shut at 4pm) , as before, all ok until headlight. Got dipped beam on all the time , which is OK, but for some stupid reason you need the side light as well. Well the headlight has'nt got one, but I do have a loom with the light in the old euro headlight, but why do I need a 5w side light when I have a 55w dipped on all the time ??? Those are the rules. Great !! Emissions, Fail , warm bike up more, Fail, re-calibrate machine, run bike around car park, Fail , recalibrate again , Fail, Re-calibrate again , run bike harder round carpark and I will bring the pipe to you OUTSIDE, bugger me, just long enough to get the tip of the pipe into the exhaust , JUST scrape a pass. Quick dash home(20minutes) retrieve side light loom and drill to drill headlamp case , get back , strip SM, loom plugged in, headlamp off, drilled, back on, SM passed at 3:59pm !!!!!! What a day.
Just got to insure and register now , I think. Well that and put the jolly's back on the vdue. |

Really happy for you Vort. Nothing like doing it the hard way, another common trait for us lot I think... put yourself under pressure then pull it off! brilliant! _________________ Pomps

great stuff
we all work best under pressure, even if we don't plan it that way.
well done

Have to say after all the stories you hear about SVA, it was not THAT bad. Just a strict MOT, and knowing the rules.
The one that nearly sunk the vdue was all forward facing edges MUST have a 2mm rad on them, hence the need for rubber strip on the mudguard |

I beleive ther are a few odd things like the lights etc.
MOT you only need a red brake light etc.
SVA I beleive you need an E marked one. Same for headlight etc.
At the end of the day its maily common sense.
Glad they passed. _________________ Si...

I have been told by as SB8K Gobert (Zombie) owner that there isn't a fuse box, and he has had his bike in bits after the fire so should know
The headlight is a standard TL light just the nose cone covers the centre slightly. I got 2 with the bike , one was the euro light so wrong beam shape , and the other just seems to be a flat beam with 2 standard halogen bulbs in it, but no little side light. This is the one that is now fitted with make shift loom.
For an MOT you are allowed to have the wrong light with stickers on it and a KPH clock with stickers on it. For a VOSA test they MUST be proper UK lights and MPH clock. They will not accept stickers. |

Great story. As for fuses I can assure you that there is only ONE main fuse. Owner's Maual page 61 clearly states:
"this motorcycle has only one fuse as a part of its electrical system; this is positioned on the left hand side of the motorcycle near battery and is for the starter relays only.
Starter Realys 30A Main"
That means the rest are relays and the bike system is CanBus _________________ 2016 Suzuki GSXR750 TRACK BIKE

Falcolion - have you had any issues with your SB8k? (Electrics scare me at the best of times, but Italian electrics are on another level.)
2Bims and Nige have aready seen this , but just so you boys can understand what I was up against when I was trying to trace a wire with the aide of only a bimota wiring diagram.
According to the wiring diagram it's the purple wire I am after ???
Picture of the ECU
Picture of the wires going into the clocks
Think some one found a spare drum of purple wire. |
