| A bypass on a thermostat usually helps by keeping the engine temperature change at a slow/even rate, reducing thermal shock, thus lowering the possibility of head gasket failures. |

yes.....which is why most thermostat's have bleed holes or "built in" by pass systems.
...With the SB6 system, the actual thermostat is minuscule without a bleed hole or internal by-pass system and that, in my opinion, is why the SB6 has/needs a large bore bypass.

...Got a few other things out of the way and got a deadline to get this project set up on the dyno so better get my sleeves rolled up 
...waiting for the pod filters so I can make a titanium bracket to support the rear of the tank.....
...got to build the dash board then it's the dreaded wiring but saying that, the SB6 loom isn't exactly big or too complicated...
...this looms been a bit, er, butchered but with the new clocks, it will need to be altered more so we'll see if a complete custom loom will be easier.
After all that, if she runs ok it'll be off to the dyno and then just the bodywork to do....might be ready for summer

Are them for the "big bore" one?
I bought the Pipercross ones but I think they'll rest in the garage as I read that could be hard to tune them on CV carbs...

yep, for the big bore.
I've read loads about how you can't get good results with pod filters on these carbs but I know a man with a dyno who says a carb is a carb
we will see soon.
Which pipercross filters did you get?
have you got the part number?
Are they the foam socks?
I'm wondering if they will be easier to fit than the K&N. Be nice to have both types to see which perform best on the dyno

Wayyyy back the dyno shop who found my bike's 100 hp tried to fit a pair of these but said they didn't go under the bodywork - are these Gix 1100 or different ???

EC- who was that out of interest, the dyno shop you're talking of?
I had a set of pipercross trumpet socks on a 1700 Ford Xflow, with BVH, 45s etc. On the dyno the operator was convinced that there was a 3k rev limiter set, he couldn't get it to run over 3k, no matter what he did with timing or fueling. Removed the socks and it ran fine to around 7.5k. Even with mesh inside the trumpet socks never worked and I've never run them on anything since

No not gix 1100 but even so it looks like a mod is needed....
they fit the carbs well and fit inside the bodywork but.....
...the back of the filters is too high to let the tank sit low enough

The Dyno was Banjax - the limit was in the camshafts

the only label on the box is a "MPX1004" on the bar code
It's a twin foam filter and seems to be made of a good quality
if you need some measurement I would easily post as they are under my desk now. I read about sidewind influence, dangers of sitting on the sidestand under the rain, difficulty to tune up...

That number works...found them without a problem.
I've read the same as you about side winds and rain and sidestands etc but have never found anyone who has actually tried it....
They look about the same dimensions as the K&N 's so I need to work out how to get these to fit before I invest in some pipercross.

Cooling system jigsaw was so much easier to sort without that bloody great, pointless web in the way.......

Remember this?
Just come across a picture of the 6R frame from when I was fitting it with mini Dyna coils.
As you can see, MY 6 still has a load more headstock bracing than the 6R.
...I wasn't nearly aggressive enough with the grinder
Maybe on the next one
