Always worth a try but I'm not sure a peltier could cool the volume of inlet charge rushing through the air box. Keep us informed as that would be a simple low cost modification that could easily be retro fitted.
If there was room, an inter-cooler would be the way to go.

Initially, I'm thinking......
Most improvement...minimum effort/cost.

I need filters or an air-box for running the project on the dyno so now is the time for experimenting Wink

Have a look at the Yam ThunderCat / R6.
The ram air is taken from the front of the bike, then it goes into swirl chambers and then to the airbox.

If you took an intake from the lower front edge of the fairing you could put the swirl chambers in the fairing halfs (or just the one side) and then duct that to the air box.

Warm air isn't so hard to get around you just need to use a half round tube heat shield like some intercooler wrap.

Vince...a cooler air charge is always going to result in a healthier power output.
Maybe a scoop on the side of the air box Idea maybe an idea for stage 2

Boris... I'm thinking swirl chambers etc, I'll leave for the race boys to develop Laughing
I am unemployed with no portfolio remember Laughing

The swirl chambers do so little they are not worth entertaining, their main purpose is to remove water from the incoming air, and allow it to drain out of the bottom. Most race bikes bin the stock airducts and replace with direct ducting. Lets not overcomplicate the job, lets look at increasing the airbox volume first if it's achievable, as the stock airbox is known to be way too small. And the filter will remove any water that does actually make the conveluted trip down the inlet tract if we can create one once the airbox volume has been addressed.

The exhaust running past the airfilter will also affect the inlet charge very little if at all, there will be plenty of airflow around the pipe to take warm air away, and intercoolers can remain the property of Turbo vehicles, again guys lets work on the easier mods with bigger gains. The difference in engine output, from warm ambient temp to cool again is minimal on an aspirated engine, turbo's hold a different set of parameters, due to the inlet charge passing through the turbo which is very hot, way beyond what we are looking at for the SB6 modded airbox.

OK - why not extend the air box forwards and enclose the carbs

...Here we go then, no time like the present......

The non too clever sb6 air filter.....

...Removed...even the old foam has stuck to the grill....

...the lip the filter sits on is in the way, reducing air flow...

...no problem...

...the part that the filter frame bolts to is now redundant as there is nowhere to sit the filter......

...no going back now Shocked

A good idea if practical, but the percentage gain will be less as you are filling any volume gained with the carbs, so the gain may not be worth all the work.

Not practical....
The carb tops are higher than the top of the air box and all the work sealing the cables etc....just not worth the effort untill we know if it's going to work or not Wink

Exactly, one step at a time eh?

I'd say that would pay more dividends if we could some how set up some ram-air feeds, as it's a bigger reserve at speed, kinda compounds the advantage.

Is there any chance of a side on pic of the SB6 with its' airbox and tank in place but without the tank cover/seatunit if anyone has one?

Cheers Rob, the first pic answered my question, the airbox is cut short to allow for the fuel tap, guessed there would be something there.
