Just bought my 2nd SB6R, so am keeping one stock, & making one a little more unique, as well as comfortable, which has brought me to a dilemma...

I'm moving the handlebar clamps above the top triple, which means I needed to remove the top triple 1st...I loosened all 3 'pinch' bolts, as well as the bars themselves, & while the bars are now free & ready to slide off, the top triple is being stubborn...I have removed quite a few triples before, so I've tried all the tricks I know (mallet for a little 'persuasion', taking the weight off the forks & twisting the tubes, to make sure they aren't sticking...) The triple won't budge.

Any thoughts/help would be greatly appreciated!

(will be sure to send pics of both when finished, side by side...)

Helllo

Nothing I can think of if the the tripple can move at all then it's just held by something incedental like the ignition switch. If it doesn't move then it's still bolted, but I only thought there 3 things - 2 fork clamps and the central nut

It doesn't move at all, but there is no center nut, only another pinch bolt...
(The ignition switch is free)
I'm afraid to force anything in the center, because there is a button for the trip meter/etc in the middle of the stem...

Mine is the SB6 but on the top of the steering stem there's should be a "nut", it might be under the switch but either way I think that's what's holding it. See at the top of this picture

Why don't you just put Vari bars on it ??? The top clamp can't go any lower than it is because of the headrace bearings / headstock and the forks won't come through the clamp enough for you to put the clipons back safely ???

THANX for that pic; Mine has a button in the middle...Just have to CAREFULLY remove that, now that I know what it looks like underneath...

I lowered the bike ~1", so there is enough room on top of the triple for the bars...More of a 'streetfighter' style riding position, & MUCH more comfortable than stock...

THANX AGAIN for the pic; REALLY HELPED!!!

OK, got it DONE...!!!

(at the expense of the switch inside the center nut...It was threaded in, not pressed...No way to tell that it was, until I had broken the top off...Time to find a Bimota parts source...Not a big deal...Just runs the trip meter & such.)

Like the look; LOVE the feel!

Took a bit of re-routing cables/wires, but nothing too difficult...

OK, time to tackle the tail section/exhaust;
Will figure out how to post pics when finished.

I dropped my bars - although I kept the forks in the standard possition.
