This is just a stray random thought, but could dzus fasteners be substituted for well nuts?

No, the well nut in this case goes into a 'blind' hole in a mount post (for want of a better description). I think i'll just make a threaded insert and press it in.

The finish on your bellypan loks sweet now Steve, much better than original and much better than mine.

Cheers Brian, I am suitably impressed by them, but then I've used this painter before so was confident he could pull them round to my level of acceptable...but to be frank...when the bikes on its sidestand...as you say...you dont really see the pan, good or bad finish....

Rubber wellnuts...I presume you're on about the cap screws, one either side at the back of the belly pan, near the rear wheel? The traingular shaped brackets that are mounted to the crankcase of the engine?. Dont like wellnuts meself, as they often fail, go hard, crack, or the brass insert that you bolt into slides its way down the weel nut.
Do ay though that when new I've not ahd a problem..are you tightening the bolt sufficient so that it compresses the well nut so far that it "squishes" and expands the well nut where it meets the bracket, stopping it from coming out...when they deteriate the threaded brass insert comes loose and draws down into the rubber, stopping it from expanding and doing what its supposed to

No, it's the long cylindrical mount that comes out from the frame where the mid fairing section attaches. Probably a Ducati part i think, i'll take a pic

Thats a weird One Brian...that you have a wellnut fastener in this fixing? This is the one where theres a lug welded onto the oval ally frame just below the tank on each side? On my Db4 this is just a threaded post that a long allen bolt goes into, has a washer inbetwwen to keep the fairing panle flat on the fastener..

New clutch now fitted to the DB2...slight delay as needed a new seal behind the basket as the clutch had been turned into a semi-wet/semi dry unit...Oopsss...Original clutch basket was also a Billet unit....but past its best so thats been changed...new barnett plates in with new springs, collats and bolts...Nice shiney new billet clutch pressure plate couldnt go on though.....The clutch assembly Hub is yet another "special" that the previous owner had put onto the bike...alloy hub instead of steel...and the teeth are a different pattern at the top face so new pressure plate wont go on...so old one gone back on....

Oh and a worthy point of Note for Carbon Cam belt covers......After fitting these the bike was ran for only a mile or so, before taking off for new belts and new clutch.....lots of rubber shavings present inthe bottom belt cover recess....Nice new shiney Carbon fibvre belt covers had been chaffing away on the cam belt due to poor quality control on the back face...overly think and not enough clearance...any further than a few miles and it would have worn straight through and snapped the lower cylinder belt....Mini dremel to the rescue once again to gain clearance on the back face....Be warned...Shoddy aftermarket parts....

Chiming in.......

Planned maintenance?.........

Start 'er up once a week and bring 'er up to temperature throughout the long cold Rocky Mountain, Utah winter....then new shoes in the spring.......

However, my personal maintenance is a different story. It is looking like a cervical spine multi level fusion may end my riding career... Crying or Very sad maybe.....If so, there will be a "pristine" Embarassed Laughing example of an SB6R with 15K mikes on the clock for sale in the USSA....... Crying or Very sad Crying or Very sad Crying or Very sad

Really sorry to hear of your impending surgery. I have degenerated disc disease in several of my cervical vertibrae and I can relate to your situation. Mine is currently somewhat controlled by some fairly stout pain killers, but it has made riser clipons necessary.
Good luck with however you need to deal with this.

I'll second Spikes Comments on that and wish you the best of British...I had a friend in a similar situation that needed vertabrae fusing together...but asked if he could still play football after...no was the answer so he didnt bother...thing was though...because of his bad back he didnt play football anymore anyhow....see how it goes and maybe get some bars fitted to the top yoke and create a streetfighter Sb6R...been done before....even if I end up having to be craned onto a motorbike at both ends...I'll still give it a go.....trying is what counts...never give up

Awe-pishaw....Thanks for the well wishes guys!

Spike, my stout pain killers aren't really doing the job anymore and the real issue is loss of muscle strength, and, of course, yes, the debilitating pain. First things first, YET ANOTHER MRI........

My tentative plan would be to sell the SB6R and pick up a Ducati Diavel, if I can figure a way to fill the "cash gap" Rolling Eyes Laughing

Looking at your picture, the oil cooler is very close to the header. Since the header puts off so much heat, could you move the oil cooler above the cylinder like the DB4?
