I got tired of the dangerously short stand on my 6R and the strain it puts on the bracket, so I had a longer one made up in calorie-controlled titanium which had the side benefit of bringing the lardy lad's weight down a bit too. I'm trying to judge whether there are other owners who would be interested in this fix. If there was reasonable demand they would be £250 each plus postage. Here's some pics:
Here's one fitted:
And this shows the angle of lean with it fitted:
On the one hand, it's a lot of money for a stand, albeit quite a lot less than the result of the bike falling over with the original - on the other hand, it's a very handy weapon for your other half to give you a good seeing to with when she finds you've been wasting yet more money that could have been more wisely invested in kitchens, handbags, shoes etc. Let me know, as they say. _________________ What, Jonny's gone! |

Good question Chuckie and the answer is yes, the hole to accommodate the spring and the ball bearing is there. Your interest is noted. _________________ What, Jonny's gone! |

Funny that I am only seeing this as early in May my bike fell when transporting in a van mainly due to the ridiculous angle of the sidestand...
I will have to check pics as my bike is a yb9 and I am not sure if it is the same stand although it does look like it.
How much longer than the original is it?. I would be worried about it coming close to the chain run.
I have been propping mine occasionally on a 2 inch block of wood - doesn't look good tho, never mind any other considerations! |

Maybe if this thread can be moved to the bimota chat section of the forum we can get more interest. Just a thought _________________ 02 aprilia RSVR Mille, 02 aprilia SL1000 Falco

it looks very similar to the YB8 Furano stand,
Same look to them and design although the ball bearing and spring part doesnt exist on mine?
My stand is too long as the bike sits lower than stock, its unstable the way it is.
Titanium stand sounds like a great idea. _________________ YB8EI |

The YB stands are different to the SB stands.
I think we're still at only 3 for the SB stand. _________________ What, Jonny's gone! |

I have found that the length of the stand is adequate. The problem lies in the degree to which the stand is allowed to go down I.e it pivots too far forward. The solution is to create a 'bump stop' so that the stand does not go too far forward. I have done this on all my bikes by removing the side stand and drilling and tapping a hole to take a small bolt so that the head of the bolt hits the supporting pivot bracket. Use a high quality stainless hex head bolt and you may even be able to create an adjustable angle on the stand. A few minutes in the workshop and a few pence for a bolt and problem solved. |
