Hello everybody,
I'm new to this forum. I've been a member of the 400greybike forum for quite a while.
Boris (Evilchicken0) sent me a link to your forum. Thanks again for that

I recently acquired this beauty.
She looks a bit sad at the moment, but she will soon be a Bimota YB7 again.
I'm planning to use her as a track bike.
I do not have the original fairing.
I'm wondering if there is another fairing that fits the bike.
Does anybody here race a YB7 (or know someone that does) and use another fairing, rather than the original genuine Bimota part?
Thanks in advance.

and yes I will upgrade those forks

welcome to the forum. Can't help you with your fairing problem, but wish you success.
Unless my spare Tesi 1D body work could be made to fit............... Very Happy

I've got a spare airbox top if you need one.

Good luck with the rebuild.

Why do any new members never fill out the Profile boxes....where you live...interests...hobbies etc......Just a country will do....helps us to help you...no point saying "I have a spare fairing"...if you live 10,000miles away....and helps us gauge our responses if we know your interests/job...if youre a bike mechanic then we dont need to step you through one by one...etc

Welcome to the Forum by the way....some task ahead of you....I'd start by tracing previous owners...bodywork will be somewhere no doubt....do you have a tank and seat cover/unit?

Thank you all for the warm welcome
Boris:
I've contacted Moto Forza (the YB8 fairing is way to big)

Laminator:
Thank you for the offer. I have a spare airbox

2Bims:
Advice accepted.
I've updated my profile. (Your location is "Posts: 4976"? Wink )
Unfortunately I'm anything but a trained mechanic.
Distance has never been an issue for me.
Yes I have a tank and seat cover/unit. Might take a mould of it.

I'm actually trying to find out whether there is any non Bimota fairing kind of matching the YB7. Something which would be easily replaceable if I would get a bit too confident on the track

Hey Lkey
Welcome and hello from Queensland- I have a YB7 also.
Where did you get your bike from? If it was old friends at Simca (or his son) at Springwood he has quite a few Bimota parts and may be able to if not source then at least send you in the right direction (I bought my YB7 from him). Given he also does smash repairs he'll be able to answer your fairing questions. Simon is a motorcycle nut and been in the industry for years. I'd probably go and see him face to face then lob up out of the blue.

Hi pkay
no I didn't buy from Simca
Both bikes were bought in Japan
But asking Simon about other fairings is a good idea - thanks

The main issue with 90's bimotas is their original "one-piece" clamshell fairing....that gains its strength from being one piece....and only really fixes to the bike in 2 positions on each side.....theres 2 others at headlight frame brackets but really thats for wing mirrors.....Thus theres very few mounting points to fit anything else to it without making up frame brackets, drilling, welding etc....I'd say FZR400/FZ600 etc...but fairings for those 90's bikes may also be in short supply...I have seen a Bimota DB2 that had a Ducati 916 fairing grafted onto it.....so thats a ducati engine bike with a Ducati fairing....and width of engine and layout, rads etc...you'd be best looking at bikes/Fairings from the same engine manufacturer.....there are a lot of in-line 4's out there

Welcome to the forum Lkey. I'm also in QLD but live in Mackay. Although I'm currently laid up in St Andrews hospital in Brisvegas... I had shoulder surgery today. I love the 400's and currently race a Honda 400 (hence the recently busted shoulder Sad )

Cheers
Brian

The added complication with a replacement race fairing is that it will need an enclosed belly pan if you plan to race it.

MotoForza make a nice lightweight fairing for the YB8 but, apart from not suiting the YB7, it's not enclosed on the bottom.
