Read somewhere it was the Suzuki GSXR in 85 as the first mass produced
builder.Yamaha must have been close with the Delta box.
"The GSX-R750 was derived from the factory's ally-framed XR41 GS1000R race bike. The 750 was the first mass-produced large Japanese multi to use an aluminium frame. The air/oil-cooled 749cc engine was based on the XR69 endurance 1000R bikes on 1981-82, with final engine tweaks gained from the Yoshimura-developed XR41, and 1984 750 F1 machine. For 1986-87 (G.H models) the bike evolved into a less nervous handler with bigger forks and a longer swingarm. Its looks remained virtually unchanged. Engine internals were also strengthened ."
There were other whom used a pressed steel frame and manufacturers
of after market frames for road bikes _________________ Marty

Thanks! forgot about the little Gamma 250 - I thought (like many others) that it was the first slabby GSX-R750, until I read up about my latest purchase, which has an all alloy frame and pre-dates the 750 by 1 year.

Couldn't resist it Duncan - I love the old slabby Gixers. This 400 only cost £300 cash and it's got an exhaust system that fetches £380 for a used item in Japan Should be fun around Cadwell when its finished!
Needs the brakes doing, and I'm sure there is a forum member who is THE man for bleeding Suzuki Deca piston brake systems............ |

I had one years ago, a yellow jap import. I bought it for my then girlfriend because the seat height was so low and, well, so was she. It had an amazing turning circle on it and revved like crazy as I remember. I think it had a gear change indicator on it as standard. Really advanced for its day it was another one I should have kept! _________________ Pomps
