Hello friends,
I'm the San Francisco Bay Area and I've just picked up a YB9. Legend says it used to belong to a southern California Wrigley chewing gum heir.
It's been sitting for many years. Date code on tires is 2001
It is said to have had Avgas run through it before it was put to sleep so hopefully the carbs aren't too bad.
Only has 4200 kilometers on it.
My questions:
How do you remove the lower fairings? It looks like the mirrors are pressed into place and retained with spring pressure but I got scared trying to pull on them.
It doesn't have a license plate bracket - any suggestions?
Missing rear turn signals, does anyone know what they are, where to get them?
Rear caliper is leaking and rear master may be NFG. Is there a rebuild kit for either?
Airbox has been exchanged for Uni pod filters. Should I look for an airbox?
I haven't had a carb'd bike since 1986 so dumb questions:
The vacuum (?) line between 1-2 and 3-4 that meets in the middle to a "T": Where does that go?
There are 3 (visible) plugged lines. I assume there's 4th hidden somewhere: Those are for syncing? Where is the other end and how do I get to them (hopefully without pulling the carbs).
I'd like to replace the fuel pump. Is it the same as Yamaha YZF750?
Any tips there?
Super execited to get her back on the road.
Thanks in advance.

I figured out how to remove the lower fairing in case someone stumbles on this in the future. Remove allen head screw that holds each mirror. Pop off mirrors.
Remove rubber plug in upper fairing stay.
Unbolt upper fairing stay.
Find 2 friends. One one each side. Carefully spread the lower section to clear the front tire.
Oh and unplug the turn signals at some point. _________________ Current bikes: 1997 Ducati 900SS/SP, '08 Hypermotard 1100S, 2022 Triumph Speed Triple, Husky 701SM |
